Clan Wars (the play begins)

Stormkit padded out with Violetkit close beside him. He paused just outside the den and looked around. Violetkit scowled.

"What are you doing?"

"Looking for a stick," Stormkit replied, not at all bothered by Violetkit's impatience. "Found one."

He padded to the around the nursery where he had spotted a fallen twig. It had clearly come from the nursery wall but it had already fallen off so Stormkit figured it would be fine.

He began to drag the stick across the dirt. He drew two long lines. that crossed each other in the middle. As soon as he dropped the stick, Violetkit leapt over two of the lines and sat down. "This is Shadowclan territory."

Stormkit shrugged with a slight smile, okay. He turned back to Creamkit exited the nursery. "Where do you think Thunderclan territory should be, you guys?"

The grey tabby looked confused. "Where's Silverkit?"

Creamkit shrugged. "With Rivermist, I guess."

"Mom's awake?"

"Your mom is, apparently," Violetkit mewed.

Sandkit ducked away from Rivermist playfully when she licked her. "Fine," She added a bit of disappointment to her tone that their mother wouldn't be joining the game, but it didn't last long because she knew she would be playing with all her other siblings.

She turned her head and looked toward the nursery's entrance, where she saw Stormkit, Creamkit, and Violetkit heading outside. The game was starting! She thought excitedly. The small kit bounded toward the entrance, smiling at Spottedkit, her teammate, as she passed. "Come on, let's go!" She called to all the other kits.

She squeezed out of the nursery after the three kits. Sandkit watched as Stormkit drew lines in the dirt with a stick, only getting the meaning of what he was trying to do once he finished. "Good idea!" She jumped onto the piece of land that was closest to the nursery. "Here's WindClan." She decided, smiling.

occ- Something should happen when they start the game. Like, they get carried away and one of the kits gets hurt. Then Rivermist could decide it's time to separate them to the different Clans. Or not, if it's too soon.

Streamkit bounced to her paws with eagerness when Shadowkit agreed to play. "That's great!" she squeaked, looking around at her team-mates. "We'll be the greatest team ever." Looking around, Streamkit saw Stormkit and the other kits begin to bundle out into the clearing, and her paws itched to follow them. "I say we should see if we can make an alliance with one of the other Clans," she whispered to her companions. "That way we could help each other out and beat the other two." With that suggestion, she bounded outside to claim her Clan's territory.

Spottedkit padded over to his mother behind Sandkit, pleased to see that she was awake. "It's too bad that you can't play, Rivermist," he said with disappointment. "But we'll make sure to have twice as much fun just for you, right Sandkit?" Turning, Spottedkit caught sight of his sister whirling around and dashing for the exit. Rolling his eyes goodnaturedly, he bid goodbye to his mother and trotted after her.

When he came outside she was already claiming one corner of a large area of the clearing for their Clan. "Good choice, Sandkit," he mewed as he padded up to her. "The ground here is nice and firm, good for fighting on. Come on, let's dig ditches around the edges as a better barrier!" Flicking his tail in excitement, the spotted tom bundled over to one of the boundary lines and began clawing a shallow trench where the line was. The dry, sandy soil came away easily beneath his paws, making it easy to dig an entire side of the territory in only seconds.

Shadowkit would have loved to just sit with her mother, curling up and watching her siblings play, but she had already agreed to play. And if she didn't play, her team would lose. She didn't want to lose. And she didn't want to be the reason her team lost.

The moment the other kits went out of camp, Shadowkit went stiff. She hadn't realized they were going out of the nursery. She must have missed that part. The black kit stared long and hard at Rivermist before slowly making her way outside of camp. Now this was a first for Shadowkit, actually making her way out of the nursery on her own.

She sat down as close to Streamkit as possible and shivered beside her sister. This was something brave kits did. How long could she last out here? "I agree, an alliance might be good." she mewed softly.

ooc// Yeah, what I was thinking is Rivermist could watch the kits or something, and realize just how different they really are. She can see the different clans in each of them or something like that.

Did that make any sense?

OOC: Yep. I think that's more settle.
BIC: Bristlepaw was just exiting the apprentice den. Seeing nearly all the kits out of the nursery, he padded over and looked over them all without getting too close. He was still nervous about possible squishing them.

The grey tabby kit with blue eyes bounded over to him. "Just in time. We're playing Clan Wars. You're on Violetkit's team."

Before he could protest, Stomkit was pushing him with light paws over the two lines towards the little blue-grey kit.

//Okay....so, I guess Rivermist just decides that they belong in different clans then?//

Rivermist nuzzled Silverkit gently, then watched as the she-kit bounded outside. Purring in amuesment, she followed the kits outside of the nursery, stretching out in a sunny patch to watch. Her gaze watched lazily as the kits began to dole out territories, her purring louder as she saw how serious they took their game.

Her blue eyes clouded as she gazed upon her kits, however. They quickly cleared. It was all a game. Surely they weren't that serious. Kits found everything of the upmost importance. It was nothing.

Wasn't that what you said of Foxfur and your love for him? Nothing more than a fantasy? She shook her head, clearing it of such thoughts. This was nothing. She was sure.

Sandkit smirked and crouched down on her plot of land, trying to decide which Clan to go after first. She smiled at Spottedkit, and when she realized he was trying to dig a better barrier, she bounced over to help him. Her unsheathed claws dug into the dirt, feeling uncomfortable at the strange feeling. The dirt got stuck between her claws, and she was reminded of the trouble she and some of the other kits got into earlier that morning. Memories of the 'mud monster' made her shiver as she remembered being covered to her shoulders in mud and almost not coming back.

She didn't want to think about that any more. Sandkit twitched her ears when she heard another cat come over. Her green eyes widened when she saw Bristlepaw. "Bristlepaw's going to play too?" She blurted out, surprised. "Why is he on Violetkit's team? He should be with me and Spottedkit!" She glared at Violetkit for a split second, then huffed, lashing her tail, and continued to dig out the border. She would go after ShadowClan first.

Violetkit, of course, heard Sandkit's big mouth. Her response was to turn her back to the brown kit and beckon Bristlepaw to follow suit. Together, their backs facing the others, Violetkit whispered her plans to the apprentice.

"We will focus our utmost power on Windclan. Thunderclan is no threat to us. And we don't share a border with Riverclan so they can only attack through Four Trees."

The tabby apprentice nodded, though he looked unsure as to what the game was about.

Sighing, Violetkit explained. "You won't have to hurt them. Just use your paws and tail to keep them off our territory."

She turned her attention to Stormkit as he padded to the center of the lines. "Are we all ready to start?"

Quivering with excitement, Streamkit waited impatiently for the game to begin. "We should ally with WindClan or ThunderClan," she whispered to her companions. "I wouldn't trust ShadowClan with a single pawstep of ground." Looking around, she saw the two cats that made up that particular Clan turn their backs away from Sandkit and Spottedkit and begin whispering plans amongst themselves. Streamkit wondered what they were about, but she knew better than to ask. Violetkit wasn't extremely friendly to begin with, and besides that she was ShadowClan now, RiverClan's enemy. "Well, are we ready?" she asked Shadowkit and Swiftkit, looking around. "I know we can win if we stick together."

Finished digging one side of their border, Spottedkit hurriedly began digging out the other side while he conversed breathlessly with his Clanmate. "We'll have to be especially careful of ShadowClan," he mewed quietly to Sandkit. "Since Bristlepaw's on that team, they're more powerful even if there's only two of them. If we get into trouble, we should see if we can ally with another Clan for help." Sitting back and shaking the dirt from his claws, Spottedkit looked proudly at the shallow channels that separated them from the other Clans. If only they weren't so small, they might actually provide a good defense. As it was, the trenches were easy to step over without even increasing your stride. A kit would have to be rather unlucky to lose their footing by stepping in one.

"What's wrong with ShadowClan? Bristlepaw's the best fighter." Swiftkit muttered mutinously, raising an eyebrow at Streamkit. Then he glanced across at the whispering ShadowClan kits and he felt quite keen to know what they were saying. What if the others had better tactics than they did? Swiftkit was rather determined that their Clan should be the best, and decided that it would be better to at least have an ally, whoever it was. "Well who do you want to ally with then?" He meowed, looking from Streamkit to Shadowkit.

"I want to win this!" He declared, wriggling his haunches energetically. "If we ally with another Clan, we should take down ShadowClan, because otherwise Bristlepaw will be a threat. We can take them down if the other Clans help." He said with a sneaky little smile.

Shadowkit was with her siblings, there shouldn't be any fear. Or that's what she continued to tell herself over and over. She listened to her brother and sister commenting and began thinking. What would be the best way?

"I think we should ally ourselves with WindClan. Even though Sandkit has a big mouth, I think they would be the strongest. Sandkit isn't too fond of Violetkit so the bitterness between those two would really start something. We could possibly make an ally with ThunderClan too, and take ShadowClan down first." she turned to Streamkit and Swiftkit.

"Like Swiftkit was saying, ShadowClan has Bristlepaw, so they need to go down first. We can have almost everyone go after him, while the others go after the other two." Shadowkit closed her mouth after what seemed like the longest she had ever spoken. The kit really was quite good at plans, she just never shared her opinions much. Her blue eyes watched Streamkit and Swiftkit carefully, waiting for their input.

Rivermist watched the kits with one eye while grooming herself, enjoying the warm sun on her pelt. Still, her concern began to grow as she noticed the hostility between Sandkit and Violetkit. Nothing but normal kit rivalry, she thought. It was normal for some kits not to get along with each other. Perhaps Sandkit was jealous, because Violetkit had Bristlepaw on her team. She had never noticed any hostility between the two before...

All this talk about alliances, and working together to ensure that the other Clan didn't win made the silver queen uneasy. She swivled her ears to catch what was being said, and her gaze was riveted on the kits, as they grew close to beginning their game.

Sandkit hopped over to help Spottedkit with the rest of the border. Nodding, she said, "Got it." She looked at the ShadowClan team out of the corner of her eye and she was filled with determination to make sure her team won. Especially against ShadowClan. She would be humiliated if she couldn't live up to her declaration of beating them. "We should ally with RiverClan, 'cause they have the most on their team." Soon they were finished digging out the shallow trenches, and Sandkit shook her paw to fling the dirt off. "Ick." She whined, not liking the feeling of the dirt caught between her claws. It reminded her of the mud tunnel.

Streamkit looked thoughtfully at Swiftkit when she heard the black tom's rebellious mutter. "If you think Violetkit would ally with us, you've got bees in your brain," she muttered teasingly, flicking Swiftkit's ear with her tail. She listened with eager ears to what else her siblings had to say, narrowing her eyes with pleasure when she heard Shadowkit's suggestion. "Yeah, we can ally with WindClan," she whispered excitedly, bouncing up and down. "And ThunderClan too if we can, though I don't know if we'd actually be able to ally with both of them. If WindClan and ThunderClan were to fight each other, we'd need to pick a side." That being said, Streamkit thought that the game was going to be fun. With all the three moon-old kits in the nursery plating and even an apprentice, how could it be anything less?

Smiling, Spottedkit bumped his head against Sandkit's flank. "It's only a little dirt," he reminded her gently, shaking his own paws to remove the last few grains of sand. "We walk on it all the time." Looking around, he thought about the light brown kit's suggestion. "We'll ask them once the game starts," he agreed quietly. "I'm sure our siblings will see the wisdom in forming an alliance." After all, thought the tabby kit as the game drew closer, RiverClan is the only group that's made up completely of our siblings. ShadowClan doesn't have any of our brothers or sisters in it at all, and even ThunderClan has Creamkit in it. Coming back to the present, Spottedkit finally seemed to notice Stormkit's question of the other kits. "WindClan is ready!" he called confidently, trying not to let his aprehension show. Violetkit had no love for Sandkit, and she had a nine moon-old apprentice on her side. When the game started, WindClan would have to act quickly so they wouldn't appear weak and open to any attacks.

Swiftkit glared at his sister in mock anger, then relaxed his expression when he heard Shadowkit's suggestion. It was a good one, admittedly, and he decided that it was probably their best chance. "If we can convince ThunderClan and WindClan to help take down ShadowClan, then they won't stand a chance." He meowed gleefully. "But then what would happen after we finished ShadowClan?" He mused. "Then I suppose we'd have to be quick and ally with WindClan to take down ThunderClan." It was sneaky, embarking on an alliance with ThunderClan with plans to switch against them immediately. "Or perhaps we don't need to ally with ThunderClan, but we could convince them to attack ShadowClan first?" That way, they could easily overpower ShadowClan, then be able to take on ThunderClan with WindClan.
