Sandtail padded out into the light. She saw the other kits, but her eyes skimmed over them and fell immediately on Hawkflight, Creamkit, and Violetkit. All three were digging into a hefty rabbit. Smiling, Sandtail glided over to them, her tail bobbing with every step.
Hawkflight turned to look at her before she breathed a single word. His eyes intense, but Sandtail was not surprised. She nuzzled his neck, immediately comforted by his presence. She felt his wispy tail fall onto her shoulders lightly. Looking up, she nodded and padded with him a few tail lengths from all the kits, Russetfang and especially Rivermist.
"What did Ravenstar say?" Hawkflight mewed shortly.
Sandtail's smile wavered. She told Hawkflight the conclusion Ravenstar had come too.
Hawkflight stared at her a moment longer, than he sighed. "I suppose that's the most he could do to keep the peace."
There was a long pause.
"Are you alright?" Hawkflight mewed at last.
Sandtail gave a frustrated sort of choked sound.
"It'll be fine," Hawkflight mewed in reply. He rested his muzzle on her forehead for a moment. "Go sleep. I'll watch the kits."
Sandtail looked surprised. It was unlike Hawkflight to be so considerate. Usually he was so distant. Always on Outlook Rock.
"Thank you," Sandtail mewed smiling, then it faded. She didn't want to sleep in the nursery. Oh well. It's sunny enough and not windy at all. I'll sleep outside.
She made her way to just beside the elder's den, where it was quietest and slowly closed her eyes. Vaguely she could make out Hawkflight's form making his way back to their kits.
