Rivermist nuzzled Shadowkit softly. "It's okay if you don't want to play. Don't let the others tell you what to do, or make you join them if you don't want to. Besides, fighting isn't all it appears to be. It's not all the glory and such your siblings think it is. It's nothing more than a bunch of grown cats tussling, except with claws and teeth. Not all cats have to fight, you know. The medicine cats don't have to..." Her gaze shifted up as Streamkit joined them, her eyes softening as she watched her other daughter comfort Shadowkit.
Streamkit's gentleness towards her more timid sibling sent a pang of sorrow through Rivermist. Why couldn't they always remain this innocent and caring? In time, they would all grow up, becoming great warriors serving their Clan, no longer the sweet, gentle kits they were now. She thought hard. Could she really bring them up the way she should if she had her mate at her side? Oh Foxfur.... She needed him now, as she struggled to bring up eight kits. It was difficult...it would be easier if she had help. But she couldn't ask another queen to sacrifice her time, not when she knew many cats looked down on her kits for being half-Clan. It wasn't fair, she thought somewhat angrily, for them to take it out on the kits. They were innocent. It was her fault, really...
Her thoughts faded as she came back to reality. She purred. "Bristlepaw is big," she admitted. Rivermist's tail brushed Streamkit. "I know you wouldn't let him hurt your sister. But maybe Shadowkit isn't ready yet. Give her time. Soon, she'll become a great warrior, once you all are apprenticed." Her eyes were half closed in drowsiness, but she kept a close watch on the rest of the kit just the same.
