Spottedsky opened one amber eye. Once her brain registered that the sun's first rays were spilling into the warriors' den, she was on her paws and moving out of the den. The camp was empty, as all of the cats were asleep. Spottedsky stretched out one long black and white limb at a time as she walked towards Adderstar's den. It wasn't unusual for their leader to have trouble waking up every now and then. Spottedsky, however, found it perfectly easy to get up in the mornings and now feel groggy or drowsy. So her first task of the day was always prodding her old friend in the side until he finally got up. In fact, you might even say it was a tradition. As kits she'd done it to get Adderkit and his sisters to come out and play with her and Ravenkit. As apprentices she'd done it to wake him up for training. And now...well, that was obvious, wasn't it?
She walked into his den and approached the mass of ginger fur. "Adderstar? Are you awake?" Spottedsky prodded him with her paw. Rise and shine!
Uggghhhhh.
Why was the sun so bright? Stonespots opened one blue eye. He was momentarily blinded by the brightness. When his eye adjusted, he glimpsed Spottedsky gliding out towards the leader's den. Hmm. Stonespots opened both eyes and sat up. He'd heard the rumors about Adderstar and Spottedsky. She was probably going to talk to her secret mate. Hehe. Stonespots looked at the nest beside him. Bigclaw always slept right there. Well, if Stonespots was awake, might as well wake Bigclaw up. The gray cat batted at Bigclaw with one of his paws. "Hey! Rocks for brains! Wake up!" Ah, brotherly love.
Ooh, morning already?
Redbird rose from her nest and emerged from the elders' den. She saw Spottedsky making her way to Adderstar's den and smiled. Redbird had yet to confront her son about the rumors that he and Spottedsky were secretly mates. She knew they'd been friends for many, many moons. Their whole lives practically. Redbird had usually been the one to watch Spottedsky and Ravenflight when they were kits due to a...situation with their mother. This had caused Redbird's kits to almost instantly befriend the two black and white kits. Redbird stretched herself out in front of the den, purring as the sun bathed over her red fur.
Another glorious day!
Falconclaw had been awake for a while now. He'd awakened just when the sky was beginning to lighten and could not fall back asleep. He watched Spottedsky get up and leave the den, then watched Stonespots sit up and try to wake his brother. Falconclaw got up, stretched briefly, and walked out of the den. He would wait until his brother and sister woke before he got some fresh-kill. Falconclaw smirked. Perhaps he could invite Ravenfeather to join them. They had become friends over the past moon or so. It would be nice to eat with her and his siblings.
Ashflower, like Falconclaw, had also been awake. She had barely slept at all the past night. Her kits' apprentices ceremony was looming closer and closer. Part of her looked forward to it. Another part dreaded it. Her babies were growing up! Leaving her! She heard soft pawsteps outside and silently slipped out of the nursery, careful not to disturb her precious children. She began to move towards the warriors' den. Hopefully Hawkfoot would be awake soon and she could talk to him about this.
Smallpaw's blue and green eyes opened. A grin slid on to his face. Morning! He rose from his nest and, careful not to step on any of his fellow apprentices, bounded outside. His paw had healed up for the most part. Smallpaw could not be happier. He was finally getting caught up on his training. And he hadn't been to the medicine cat den since his paw healed. Not once! There was a spring in his step as he moved towards the fresh-kill pile. He hoped Ravenfeather would awaken soon. Smallpaw wanted to start training as soon as possible today. Smallpaw took a small squirrel from the fresh-kill pile, his eyes bright. Spottedsky had said the other day how she noticed he was gaining weight. Another cat might be worried they were getting plump. But Smallpaw needed to gain weight. Sandcloud always said he was too thin. Now that his illnesses had abated, he was able to gain a few pounds.
Things couldn't get any better!
