Spottedsky listened to everything her leader said and made a note of everything. Ever since she was young she'd been able to remember things with alarming pricision. It was part of who Spottedsky was. Strict, organized, and responsible. She had secretly hoped she would be able to watch her nephew work on his hunting this morning, but it was about time for Kestrelpaw and the others to become a warrior. She flicked her tail and nodded. Spottedsky was about to say something else when Leafstorm approached.
"Hey, Addertooth...I mean...Adderstar...can you do me a favor?"
"Sure. What?"
"Can you put Mothpelt and I on the same patrol?"
"Well su-"
"And...keep Ravenflight and me...keep us apart for today, alright?"
Whoa. Spottedsky blinked and stared at Leafstorm. Talk about deja vu. When Spottedsky recovered from her brief stun she said, "Yes, that'll be fine. I'll make sure it's arranged, Leafstorm."
Was he invisible?
Smallpaw looked at Lilypaw with an almost pained expression on his face. He must be. That was the only explanation. Every time he tried to talk to her, she barely seemed to notice him. Smallpaw wished for the millionth time he'd been born normal. Not sickly, half-deaf, with differently colored eyes. His father had been strong an handsome, from what cats told him. Why couldn't he have been born like that? Maybe then Lilypaw would notice him. Maybe.
At least Wrenpaw noticed him. She was nice, but not the she-cat whose attention he wished he was catching. "Oh, never better!" Smallpaw said truthfully. Sure Lilypaw barely seemed to notice that he was alive. But otherwise he was doing well. He was working on catching up to the others in training. He was as healthy as he'd ever been. And, to his aunt's delight, he had finally started gaining weight. Something he'd been needing to do from the moment he was born. Maybe it had finally stopped. Maybe the illnesses were gone for good.
Maybe he could be normal from now on. "Hopefully I don't get sick again." Smallpaw grinned. "That would be just dreadful."
Falconclaw listened to Ravenfeather and nodded. It seemed her sickly apprentice was finally becoming healthy. Maybe even for good. But only time would tell. "Yes. Poor tom is so behind. You two better be quick, if you want him to catch up to the others." Falconclaw slightly wished that he had an apprentice of his own. It would be nice to have someone to teach, to have someone he could share all the things he'd learned.
A growl rose in Stonespots' throat. He was pushed back a bit by the shove, but not by much. Yet he was very, very mad. Why couldn't his brother just drop it? Everyone in the warriors' den could hear and see them! It was humiliating! And how dare Bigclaw accuse Stonespots of abandoning him! As if he'd ever do that! Stonespots hissed loudly, his gray and white fur beginning to bristle. "And if I decide I do need her?! I'm not abandoning you, Bigclaw! It's not a crime if I decide that I want a family! No one is stopping you from finding a she-cat of your own and starting a family with her!" His tail lashed at the air. His icy blue eyes were narrowed at his brother.
"I'm not going to abandon you, because I remember how that feels! Have you no faith in me?!" Stonespots demanded.
