Name: Birchnose
Age: 40 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: WindClan
Apprentice: Crowpaw
Rank: Medicine Cat
Mate/Crush: Thrushtail
Kin: Ravingloon (NPC Mother/vanished) Sanesnake (NPC)
Description: Birchnose is a cat of very masculine build. His legs are long and muscular. This is a cat that could run all day, from sunrise to sunset! He's quite fast. He doesn't have that thin signature WindClan build, but he's not as thickly muscled as a ThunderClan cat either. It's his fur that gives him that robust look.
His fur is actually fairly short but it spikes out in clumps and is rather thick. The color of his pelt maintains a rich quality. The earthy brown is offset nicely by sharp black bands on his face, but elsewhere on his body the stripes are faint and well blended. His ears are large with rounded tips and long pale hairs flow out of them. The long, tipped downward, white whiskers compliment the ear-hairs quite well. The nose for which he is named is a dark rusty pink, close to brown. His eyes are a pale green, and appear to reflect objects rather than absorb them.
Personality: Birchnose is a tom with a good work ethic. He believes that nothing is more important than contributing to the Clan. He likes to keep Crowpaw on his toes during the apprentice's training. He checks on the herbs of the territory on a daily basis, sometimes watering them when they seem too dry.
There is no questioning Birchnose's loyalty. He's loyal to a fault. He gives the Clan his full heart, and he could never imagine betraying it. He's firmly decided that he won't mate outside of his Clan, if ever (StarClan forbid). Nor will he disobey his leader's or deputy's orders. And in fact he quite personally respects Ravenstar, as they grew up rather close in age.
He tends to have a bit of a temper. He dislikes seeing cats lying around when there is work to be done. He can't stand cats who would question the leader's orders or decisions. He may seem bossy at times, but he has good intentions at heart.
The most driving force of Birchnose's spirit is his sense of honor. Not only his Clan's honor, but mostly his own. He also has a tendency to respect cats who are defending their own honor.
In the past moon, he's found himself spending quite a bit of time around a certain she-cat. He finds himself calmer, and happier in her presence. Could this be love? He has an obligation to StarClan to resist! But she's making it rather...difficult.
History: Birchkit had a tough kit-hood. He was born to two purebred WindClan cats. His mother was a bit of a mad-she-cat. She was bad tempered, and often spouted nonsense about the end of the Clans. Being a only a kit, Birchkit was inclined to believe his mother and often told the other kits the same chilling "prophecies". Birchkit, presumably mad also, was avoided as if he were the plague in the nursery. His mother scoffed and if he hadn't fed from his mother the first few moons of his life the other queens would have allowed him to starve! Shortly after he began to eat prey, his mother angrily stormed away from the Clan, claiming that they weren't worthy of having her kit! However, Birchkit's father refused to let her take his son, so Birchkit was forced to stay in this wretched place.
As much as he tried to hate the Clan cats, he could not. Their ways fascinated him far too much for him to hate the Warrior Code and StarClan. He even loved his clanmates, or at least, he loved the way they treated each other excluding himself. After three moons of quiet without his mother, Birchkit was ready to become an apprentice. He was assigned a mentor but quickly learned that being a warrior was simply not for him.
When Birchpaw was about 7 moons old there was an outbreak of fevers in the nursery which led to a rather desperate search for Lavender on the moor. Warriors and apprentices were shown the herb and told to bring some back if they found any while on patrol. It seemed that there was not a purple flower to be found on the moor, but just as it seemed the kits were doomed, Birchpaw appeared with a large mouthful of them. When asked how he had found so many, the apprentice claimed that he had smelled them. (later earning him the name Birchnose). From that day forward he was trained as a Medicine Cat apprentice.
After so many moons serving as a loyal and dedicated Medicine Cat, his past trouble with false prophecies were forgotten by most everyone. He does his best to make sure that part of his past stays well buried.
