Emberthroat is a runt from a litter of tiny cats. The smallest of her three sisters, it's a constant amazement to larger cats that she doesn't simply blow over in a stiff wind. It's easy to see the resemblance between herself and her sisters; all three of them share the same slender, delicate build. Her face is angular, with a sharp muzzle and delicate cheekbones, and her ears are tall and sharply-pointed. With petite paws and a long, sinuous tail, Emberthroat looks very-much the part of a weak, pitiful she-cat. But any cat fooled by her fine-boned frame and diminutive stature is going to be in for a big surprise. This she-cat is nowhere near the pushover that she at first resembles, and it only takes one meeting for most cats to figure this out. Emberthroat's fur looks like a cross between both of her sisters' pelts. Her light, medium-length fur is a mixture of bright ginger and solid black, ranging in mottled, irregular patches across her body. Her paws and chest are pure white, which extends up her throat to cover part of her jaw as well. Her eyes are an intense cobalt blue, darker than Honeydapple and clearer than Eclipseclaw's. Their gaze is unfaltering, and is the single most intimidating thing about her entire miniaturized appearance.

If Eclipseclaw is the bold, harsh sister, and Honeydapple is the quiet intellectual, then Emberthroat is the calculating ambition of the group. Despite her unassuming appearance, a hot core of determination and passion burns within her. She is observant, noticing everything that goes on around her with her keen blue eyes, and possessing of remarkable charisma as well. Depending on the situation she's in, she may use bullying or charm to get what she wants, and is equally skilled at both techniques. Though she bears a fierce loyalty to her sisters, Emberthroat feels little for any cat not related to her by blood. Any cat who claims a place within her heart has earned it through moons of effort, for she respects only those who, like herself, are driven and tenacious in their goals. She will do almost anything to get what she wants, stopping just short of harming her own kin. Though she is ambitious, conniving, and has committed her fair share of cold-blooded acts, Emberthroat is completely loyal to ShadowClan. She recognizes that her Clan will only become strong by operating under the guidance of a leader, and though someday she plans for that cat to be her, for now she obeys Specklestar's orders without question.

h i s t o r y .

Emberthroat's history was about as tragic and tumultuous a history as it's possible to have, and still come out alive. From the very moment that she was born, she, her three siblings, and even her parents Tigertail and Foxstep were all in danger of losing their lives. Perhaps not imminently, and certainly not obviously, but the threat was there, in the form of a tom named Acornpaw. Acornpaw and Goldenpaw were Emberkit's siblings, born in an earlier litter than hers. By the time she and her three siblings were born, her older brother and sister were already training to be warriors.

The first few moons of Emberkit's kithood passed in relative peace. She had two sisters and a brother to frolic with, and two parents who cared for them all attentively. However, when the kits were four moons old, things took a marked turn for the worse. All four were playing outside with their older siblings, Acornpaw and Goldenpaw, when Acornpaw engaged Canyonkit in a mock fight. Or at least, it looked like a mock fight at first, but the older tom pressed harder and harder, hopelessly dominating Emberkit's young brother until the kit collapsed from exhaustion and was killed. Acornpaw threatened the other three kits with death if they told anyone what they had seen, and so it became common knowledge in camp that Canyonkit had died after falling from a tree.

Only a moon later, after Acornpaw and Goldenpaw received their warrior names, misfortune struck again. The newly-named Acornsquash killed his sister Goldenbutt, pushing her body from a ledge to make it look like it had been an accident. Once again the kits were with him, and again he threatened to kill them if they revealed the truth. Emberkit kept silent out of a combination of fear for her life and good sense, knowing that there was no reason for her Clan to believe her if she told the truth. Acornsquash's secret remained safe.

Soon after, Acornsquash killed his own father, Foxstep, covering his tracks just as he had done the first two times. Driven to paranoia after the death of two of her kits and her mate and fearing a conspiracy against her, Tigertail fled ShadowClan, abandoning her kits in the hopes that they would be safe if she left. Now Emberkit started to fear actively for her own life, and that of her sisters, for they were the only kin of Acornsquash that he had left to kill. A few moons later however, after the kits had been made apprentices, Tigertail finally found out what had happened. Blind with rage, she killed her own son, Acornsquash, avenging her deceased family and ending the threat to her remaining kits. Though she did not return to the Clan, and became a kittypet in Twolegplace, she had done her kits one last service. For in the defense of herself and her sisters, Emberpaw had been planning to murder her own brother, a task which was spared her young heart thanks to Tigertail's actions.

After the death of her brother, Emberpaw's apprenticeship passed swiftly and without incident. All three sisters completed their training quickly and competently under the instruction of their mentors, the young brothers Snaketail, Lizardeye, and Twistedclaw. When the three were eleven moons old, Honeypaw suffered a head injury while fighting a Twoleg dog with a patrol, but she recovered and all three siblings were able to complete their final assessment to become warriors at the age of twelve moons.
