Description: Smallpaw takes mostly after his father. His pelt is white with splashes of black across his face and back. His fur is also short, which shows just how small he really is. Smallpaw can easily be called a runt. His size resembles a fresh apprentice rather than one that is three moons into his apprenticeship. His pads are tough like a SkyClan cat's, but his legs are long like a WindClan cat's which makes him one of the fastest cats in his Clan. He has rather long claws for an apprentice so small; another trait from his father. Smallpaw's eyes are wide and green - one of them is anyway; his left eye is still kit blue. It also appears that Smallpaw is deaf on that side, or at least hard of hearing.
Personality: Smallpaw is docile, yet friendly. He's rather quiet. Though he isn't quiet to the degree where you'd just get a nod or a shake of the head in answer to any question. He likes to be social. It's often that you'll see him sharing a piece of fresh kill with another apprentice. Deep down, Smallpaw is frustrated with himself. He doesn't like being sickly and small. When training he hates that his mentor has to give him lighter work so that the apprentice doesn't strain himself. When he's sick (which is often) he becomes antsy. Smallpaw is known for sneaking out of the medicine cat den, agitated and stir-crazy. He almost always gets caught and is usually scolded. Smallpaw is much friendlier to other cats. He's as known for his sweet nature as he is for being sickly.
History: It seemed Smallpaw was cursed from the start. His father was killed by a monster on the Thunderpath a moon before his kits were born. Overcome with sorrow, Fingwing stopped taking care of herself. In turn she stopped taking care of her unborn kits. It was only through the urging of the medicine cat, her friends, and Ravenflight's sister did Finchwing not stop eating entirely. But the damage was done. Crowkit, Snowkit, and Smallkit were all born impaired. Crowkit was born blind. Snowkit was still-born. Finchwing died a few days after kitting them.
That was when their aunt stepped in. Ravenflight's sister, Spottedsky, had recently had a kit. She nursed Crowkit and Smallkit along with her own son. One day when they were three moons Crowkit, Smallkit, and Spottedsky's son Smudgekit were exploring around camp. Smudgekit was leading Crowkit and Smallkit, which was usual. Spottedsky didn't see what happened. She took her eyes off the kits for one moment to say something to another cat. Meanwhile Crowkit tumbled off one of the paths in the gorge. Smallkit watched, horrified, as Smudgekit tried to catch him before he went over. He grabbed the other kit but started to be pulled down by his weight. Smallkit jumped into action and grabbed her. But he was too weak to pull them both back over. Instead he tumbled down with them. It wasn't a very high drop, but it was for kits as small as they were.
Smudgekit survived. Smallkit wasn't hurt very much, other than a sprained paw. But Crowkit, who'd hit his head, died on impact. Spottedsky was devastated. From that moment on she watched over Smudgekit and Smallkit with a hawk's eye. She grew very protective of them. In turn this made Smallkit feel weak and suffocated. Like he couldn't be expected to take care of himself. All the same, he grew to love Spottedsky as a mother and Smudgekit as a brother.
Smallpaw was constantly plagued with illnesses through his kithood. Smudgekit became an apprentice before him, but Spottedsky stayed in the nursery with her nephew. Smallpaw was sick at the time his apprentice ceremony should have taken place. His illness delayed it for four days. Finally Smallkit became Smallpaw. His illnesses did not stop through his apprenticehood, though they lessened slightly. He became very friendly and loved to talk to the other apprentices. And, even though he is now an apprentice, Spottedsky continues to fuss over him. Smallpaw finds this increasingly annoying. Yet, at the same time, he knows she means well. This doesn't stop him from being slightly jealous of his warrior cousin, however.
