Name: Feathercloud
Age: 38 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: ShadowClan
Apprentice: Tawnypaw
Rank: Medicine cat
Mate/Crush: None
Kin: Lightningfang (Father, NPC); Fawnfoot (Mother, NPC);
Description: From the first glance it's quite obvious that a position as a warrior would have been incredibly ill-suited for her. Feathercloud, while pretty, isn't built like a warrior. Everything about her is delicate and fragile. Her legs look so slender that it looks like you could bite them and snap them in two. Everything from her bone structure, to her face, down to her pink heart-shaped nose seems delicate. Despite being small, Fearthercloud is very pretty. Splotches of black and brown accumulate on her back, while her underbelly, front, and most of her face are white. Feathercloud's amber eyes seemed to look over everything with kindness. Those eyes match the rest of her face; sweet, calming. Her black whiskers stand out against her predominately white face, though are put into balance by a splotch of brown over her eye. Her fur itself is long and soft, resulting in her name.
Personality: Feathercloud is a naturally kind and compassionate cat, along with most medicine cats. She lives to help other cats. It fills her with joy to make a sick cat well again, or help a queen through the birth of her kits. Meanwhile, Feathercloud is also a very social cat. When she isn't busy, she'll sit and gossip with the other she-cats. Just because she's the medicine cat doesn't mean she can't behave like most she-cats! At least, acting like one part of the time couldn't hurt. Due to her social nature, Feathercloud tries to know every cat in her Clan on a personal level. Most cats would rather be treated by a friend than by a stranger they'd seen around camp, after all. It gets a bit hard to keep up with her Clan, however. Every day there is some new injury, some new fever. With so many cats running around in ShadowClan, things could get hectic. Feathercloud wants nothing more than for everyone in her Clan to be happy and healthy, no matter what it takes. This leads to her being unusually loyal to her Clan for a medicine cat. On the half moon she'll occasionally be short with other medicine cats that had been having problems with her beloved Clan. Never threatening, just a bit cold. Overall her nature is compassionate and good, but she has her flaws. Just like every cat.
History: From the moment she was born, Featherkit had the odds stacked against her. She was very tiny, and most in her Clan didn't expect her to live. Those that wholeheartedly believed this chose to ignore her. Why allow something to worm its way into your heart, when you know it will just be ripped away? Their cold demeanor hurt Featherkit, but she prevailed. She grew and lived, though she remained small. More cats began to open up to her as they slowly realized that she was healthy. Featherkit also found happiness in her dreams. Sometimes she dreamed that cats with stars in their pelts would come and play with her. They'd tell her secrets and were her best friends. It wasn't until she was older did she realize that these cats belonged to StarClan. Yet Featherkit refused to say a word.
With the sixth month mark rolling around, cats became uneasy. Many didn't want Featherkit to be apprenticed until she was bigger. Even at six moons, she was still very small. One night, trying to escape their insistent arguing, Featherkit slipped into the nursery and forced herself to sleep. She had a terrifying dream. A fawn was being chased down a path made of fire by a giant monster made of smoke. Featherkit woke with a start next to her mother, who had slipped in and fallen asleep beside her. Disturbed, Featherkit remained awake until near dawn. She fell back into a deep sleep. StarClan appeared to her again, but didn't say a word about her odd dream. Instead they told her that she would never become a warrior, no matter how hard she worked at it. Their words were like a knife to the heart. When Featherkit awoke she refused to let Fawnfoot help her prepare for the apprentice ceremony. Disgruntled by her daughter's behavior, Fawnfoot left with the dawn patrol. Later, at sunhigh, the same patrol came back in with Fawnstep. She'd been hit by a monster on the Thunderpath! Only her leg was injured, thankfully. Though it was clear Fawnfoot wouldn't ever return to her warrior duties when her leg healed.
Suddenly Featherkit understood her dream. She contemplated it over the next night, as the ceremony was postponed due to her mother's sudden injury. When Lightningfang came to retrieve her, Featherkit refused to come out of the nursery. When asked why, she said that StarClan had come to her and said she'd never be a warrior, so what was the point in being an apprentice? The shocked cats decided it was best to postpone the ceremony for one more day while the Clan's medicine cat looked for a sign from StarClan. The next morning, one appeared. A white feather appeared in front of the medicine cat den. That same day Featherkit became Featherpaw, the medicine cat apprentice. Her apprenticeship was a happy time. She enjoyed learning about StarClan and how to interpret the signs given by them. Her sharp memory came in handy when it came to herbs and treatment for ailments.
The day the old medicine cat retired Featherpaw was appointed to Feathercloud. As the moons went on, Feathercloud's mother moved into the nursery. Feathercloud, at the young age of twenty-one moons, was there when here own sister was kitted. Feathercloud congratulated her mother and father on their new kit and her baby sister: Thistlekit. As the moons continued, she was extremely nervous and constantly consulted her old mentor. Finally, she learned to trust her own judgment and continues to serve her Clan well.
Roleplay example: Feathercloud slipped out of her den. The sun was just over the horizon, sending the sky ablaze with color. After stretching out each leg, Feathercloud padded over to the fresh-kill pile. Sleep still clouded her mind, and she had to fight off a yawn as she surveyed it briefly. After retrieving a vole, she watched the Clan awaken. A group of warriors began to organize a dawn patrol. The kits in the nursery began mewling loudly. Apprentices bounded out of the den to meet their mentors and start the day's training. While watching all of this, Feathercloud began to go over the duties of the day. She needed to collect a few more juniper berries, as she was running low. Fawnfoot's leg was bothering her again, so Feathercloud would have to do what she could for her. Then there was bound to be an apprentice or two who would be careless and accidentally hurt themselves.
Sighing a bit as she gulped down the last of her vole, she watched her Clan. Meows of greeting were directed towards her as other cats retrieved fresh-kill from the pile. Feathercloud returned all greetings merrily. She kept her eyes on the apprentice den, waiting on the one she needed to speak with. Finally the young tom arose. He was newly recovered from a fever, and Feathercloud was worried he'd relapse. She padded over to him and his mentor. "Good morning, you two." The medicine cat looked to the warrior. "I want you to go easy on him for a day or two. Too much stress could make him fall ill again." Her amber eyes turned to the apprentice. "And you, take it easy! Ok?" With meows of understanding, the apprentice and mentor nodded. Feathercloud smiled and nudged the apprentice as the two started off. The apprentice flicked his tail in response.
With a happy sigh, she went off to go accomplish the day's task.
