Nothing gold can stay.
Description:
A very big, heavily muscled tom with extremely wide shoulders, Oakheart strongly resembles his powerfully-built father. He is a handsome cat with a smooth brown-and-white pelt. He has near-black fur running down his back and tail but the dark fur fades to a soft, light brown along his flanks. There is a thin streak of grey fur on his belly and a white splash across his chest which continues up his chin and between his eyes. The dark fur on the back of his head creeps round to surround both grey-blue eyes, making them stand out. Though his hindlegs are both white, one forleg is a light reddish-brown and the other is the same shade of dark brown as his tail. He has large paws and strong, stocky legs. Because of this, Oakheart moves with an unsubtle, loping gait. Stealth is not his best asset, for though an excellent fighter he is prone to scaring prey away with heavy pawsteps resulting from his strong frame, although for such a large cat he moves with surprising speed.
Personality:
There is nothing dark and shadowy about Oakheart, for he is as good-humoured a cat as is possible to find. Naturally keen on making others laugh, Oakheart seems to be much of a joker, never taking anything seriously. He even tries to find something to laugh about in times of trouble, though from time to time he is scolded for attempts at jesting in inappropriate times. Underneath all Oakheart's wisecracks and merriment, however, is an empathetic and sensitive fellow. Though it takes a very good reason to bring it out, there is a more serious and thougtful side to him and once in a blue moon he has been known to offer some good advice. He has been a mentor in the past and when he wasn't messing about alongside his lucky apprentice, he was a rather good teacher. To Oakheart, there's no humour in something, then it's not worth doing. He cares little about a cat's age, gender, siblings or parents for in his eyes, if they laugh at his jokes then they are decent company. He would like to have a mate and kits one day, but only if he found a she-cat who could complement his personality and who he enjoyed being around. What he won't tolerate is mindlessness and total dependancy on others; he likes other cats to be able to think for themselves.
History:
At birth, Oakkit was already quite a big little creature. He was just a bit bigger than his brother (which did not change throughout their lives), and his mother claimed he was just like his father: strong, healthy and good-tempered. When Oakkit and his brother were in the nursery, there was another litter of four kits with whom they played when their mothers were not scolding them for being too noisy. Which, in fairness, was probably not uncalled for, as six loud, squealing kits were bound to get on a few nerves. Unfortunately, one of the toms and one of the she-cats in the other litter died at a young age, leaving their brother and sister as company for Oakkit and Foxkit. The rest of their kithood passed with reasonable normality; there were no further tragedies in the nursery and all four survived.
At six moons, the four kits were apprenticed. They were still very good friends, though Oakpaw sometimes wondered whether it was much fun for the she-cat, Dapplepaw, spending all her time with three rambunctious toms. Then, further misfortune befell Dapplepaw's litter when her brother was killed by greencough one leaf-bare. After this, Oakpaw and Foxpaw both did their best to comfort their best friend who had lost all three of her siblings. During this time, Oakpaw began to grow closer and closer to Dapplepaw until he realised that he was developing more than just friendly feelings. But to his dismay, Foxpaw revealed that he too was falling for the pretty she-cat and tensions began to rise.
A wedge was pushed between the brothers as they started to subtly compete for Dapplepaw's affections right through their training. In practice battles, Oakpaw and Foxpaw fought with more than just friendly training moves, they gave it all they had. In hunting assessments, they rivalled each other and struggled to catch more pieces of prey than the other did. In battle, Oakpaw mostly won, but Foxpaw usually caught more prey. Dapplepaw was somewhat oblivious to the battle being fought over her. They all became warriors at the same time; Oakpaw became Oakheart, Foxpaw became Foxclaw and Dapplepaw became Dapplestream. Now full warriors, the brothers were no less determined to win Dapplestream's heart. But poor Oakheart was crushed when one day, Dapplestream chose Foxclaw as her mate.
Desperate not to let his brother see how hurt he was, Oakheart threw on a charade of joking and laughing, a character which he took on more and more until he was able to get over Dapplestream. Despite being such an amusing cat to be around Oakheart never attempted to get close to any other she-cat and as of yet is still without a mate, no matter how much he would like one. And he never could quite forgive either Foxclaw or Dapplestream, so the rift between the brothers was never really healed. To the present day, they rarely see much of each other and attempt to avoid one another. Foxclaw is the one cat with whom Oakheart simply cannot joke and have fun.
Moons went by, and like all things, the wound gradually healed. It left a scar, granted, but it didn't mean Oakheart was unable to forge new relationships. Indeed, he did just that with a rather unlikely candidate - Shrewfang, the spiky and wry she-cat whose scratchy exterior was almost impermeable. But somehow, against the odds, the two made it work.
And that's how it remains.
Roleplay example:
Other:
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile.
