Doveclaw was not always a patient cat. She tended to act rashly and strike off on her own when she got tired of waiting for others. It was truly a miracle that she had managed to make four such loyal friends, even if three of them were in another Clan, for it was true that most cats were never around Doveclaw for long enough to get to know her. Tonight, however, was another matter. Tonight she was waiting for someone special, so she would stay as long as it took. And if Tigerheart came, as she tried to be confident that he would, then she would try to be patient, for this night at least.
She didn't want to rush through things and miss something important.
The moon was still large and round in the sky, almost full, as the Gathering had occurred only the night before. Doveclaw had slept late that day, since she had been up the night before, but she wouldn't be allowed that liberty tomorrow. She could hardly expect such a luxury for an excursion that was held entirely in secret. She felt restless, twitchy as she waited with her tail wrapped neatly around her paws. Doveclaw wanted to get up and pace, but she forced herself to stay seated, so her impatience would not be obvious.
She didn't know whether she was nervous or excited, but thought it was probably a combination of both that had her muscles jumping and her heart fluttering like a trapped bird. He was appealing; she didn't need another meeting with him to tell her that. The sight of the tom had her blood simmering with arousal, so it certainly wasn't a question of whether he looked good enough to mate. But Doveclaw wouldn't take a tom as her mate just because he was strong or handsome. She wanted to know him, and for him to know her, before they agreed to anything. She wanted to be in love.
"Hurry up, Tigerheart," she muttered quietly, her gaze trained on the ridge that led to ThunderClan's territory, straining for a glimpse of movement. "We may have all night, but it won't last forever."
