Puddlepelt padded softly along the moonlit river. The calming swish of the water cleared her head. At last she found a dry enough spot to pause at, and she sat with her tail curled around her paws. She had a clear view of Sunning Rocks, which gleamed silver beneath the full moon. But she chose instead to lower her gaze to the rivers reflection.
In the glittering waters she remembered how good this day had been. Well, Puddlepelt had many good days, but she felt good about today, which was a nice change. Graypaw had learned the new move well, he just needed a bit more practice so they could know for sure he could perform it in battle. Cloverpaw had done well too and....
But all the while she tried to focus on how her apprentice had done, half of her mind was still on those eyes. And hearing his voice. She found herself smiling absentmindedly, but then she remembered why she'd left camp. Shellclaw, that-THAT- brother of mine...! Who does he think he is asking all those questions? And following me around? And down right kit-sitting me?
A fish happened to be unfortunate enough to catch Puddlepelt's eye. She stuck her paw into the cool river and flipped the fish into the air. She clawed it's neck as soon as it hit the ground, and the poor prey wobbled a moment before falling still.
Puddlepelt sighed and gave thanks for the creature's life. It wasn't taken in vain. Afterall, the freshkill pile had shrank since the return of all the patrols, particularly Shellclaw's.
Staring at the river again, Puddlepelt figured she'd just have to wait for the patrol to pass by. Then she'd return to camp.
