Description:
Scorchclaw is a cat of heavy build. He has plenty of bulky muscle and it shows despite his thick fur. He is a tall cat, but wider than he is tall. His legs are thick and appear stout beneath his rounded (partly due to fur, slightly due to weight) middle. His paws are large and round. From a distance he looks like a plump kittypet, but in battle, there's no mistaking his strength and size with kittypet fat.
His fur is very dark brown, just a hair-thin shade from true black, with nearly invisible tabby markings on his forehead. He is called "Scorch" because his appearance brought to mind the burnt Sycamore with its scorched wood. He has a very pointed nose, sharply tipped ears, long greyish white whiskers, and wide yellow-green eyes. He's a sight to behold indeed. To put it shortly, he has a build like some football players do (sort of fat, but still very muscled).
Personality:
Scorchclaw is not the most loving and gentle of ShadowClan toms, but that doesn't make him evil either. He's just a bit of a troublemaker. He likes doing bad things, not for to hurt any cat, just to prove how tough he was. He used to sneak out of camp as if it were a daily routine. He pushed his duties off onto his Clanmates, warriors and apprentices alike. He would lie just for the fun of lying. But his favorite game of all was playing around with borders. He would cross the border to any Clan anytime he felt like it just to prove that no cat could stop him.
But most of that is in the past. While, he is still a troublemaker, since he began raising Foxfur, he has calmed down a bit. Ever since he realized the trouble he caused for his love, Mottledleaf, he has been rule-abiding. He never meant to hurt any cat, especially not her.
He loves his Clan deep down. He respects his leader and deputy and only went against their wishes because he realized he could never be like them. He most deeply cares for his son, even more now than he loves Mottledleaf. He's come to terms with the fact that she'll never forgive him for taking her son and now he looks forward to raising Foxfur's kits as well. He doesn't want Foxfur to lose the same chance that Scorchclaw himself was lucky enough to be given: Raising his own kits.
History:
Scorchkit was born in early leaf-fall. The dark brownish-black color of his fur reminded his mother of the Burnt Sycamore where she had met his father. The scorched tree had become a symbol of their love and thus their first tom kit was named Scorchkit. His mother and father were purely ShadowClan and very devout to the Warrior Code. They raised their kits equally, but somehow Scorchkit felt overlooked. He wanted more attention that what he had to share with his three sisters. And so his games began. He would throw mossballs at his sisters, not to hurt them, but quite enough to make them squeal in frustration. Then he wandered into the leader's den quite often. His apprenticeship was delayed, but the punishment gave Scorchkit the attention he so craved. The heavy kit bragged that the lateness of his ceremony did not bother him in the least.
Scorchpaw was made an apprentice at the age of 8 moons. He didn't make up for it very quickly either. He made a habit of "accidentally" telling other apprentices that it was their turn to clean out the elder's den or that their mentor's had told them to pick off ticks. He was almost always found out and given more chores to do, but when he did those chores he did them whenever he pleased. He would purposely wait until sunset to start doing them. Some cats felt that he should be kicked out of the Clan for his laziness, but his parents and siblings insisted that he stay. He himself claimed not to care, but most cats knew he was bluffing.
He met Mottledpaw late in his apprenticeship. He was about 14 moons old. He was stricken instantly by her beauty, and immediately went about the task of wooing her with his tough guy act. But there was more to it than that. She brought out his more gentle nature, as well as his intellect. He wasn't some smart-mouthed bad-tail punk to her, and that meant a lot to Scorchpaw. He started working harder at his duties and training seriously, and about two moons after his first encounter with her he announced that he was a warrior now and a good fighter too, so his name was "Scorchclaw".
Scorchclaw's love for her deepened as moons passed. Sneaking across ThunderClan's border was nothing to him now. He had no fear in trespassing to see her. He was so excellent at hiding his scent, covering his tracks, and predicting Border Patrols that it all seemed a game. He thought it could go on forever until she gave him the news...she was having his kits.
They initially agreed to hide it from the Clan. But Scorchclaw was so worried. After a while, he realized...he wanted to raise his kits! He wanted to be a father! Mottledleaf was a queen now and unable to sneak out as she once could. So he spoke to her at the Gathering, where she refused to give the kits up. Being upset, Scorchclaw announced that he had fathered her kits at the Gathering, and he demanded them back. A fight broke out, and the Gathering was closed without any definite conclusion.
Crowstar at last agreed that ShadowClan needed kits in it's nursery so at the next Gathering, Crowstar himself demanded at least one of the three kits, which had by then been born. He threatened war if not, but he was only bluffing. ThunderClan, and Mottledleaf, conceded to the demands and Foxkit was taken to ShadowClan.
Though distraught that that Mottledleaf may hate him. Scorchclaw raised his son with all the love and care his other kits would never see. He defended his son fiercely and attempted to shelter him from the harsh jeers of their Clanmates. He was proud of his son for a long time but he was furious when Foxfur made the same mistake as he.
In time, Scorchclaw forgave Foxfur and comforted him for the loss of his kits. When Foxfur finally admitted that he wanted to be a father to those kits, Scorchclaw was overjoyed. Now all that was left was to await the outcome. Would Specklestar really fight for the sake of this family, as Crowstar once did?
