(Blech, sorry for the crappy title. x-x;

Hm, at least now they were away from the camp. Perhaps this
will be interesting at the very least. Keeping a firm pace, the
tabby tom attempted at taking the lead, yet he seemed to be
drawn back so that Foxfire could keep up. His eyes flashed a
bright and brillient amber, and a small cat-like grin appeared on
his face, but then vanished.

"Hm, now what to do?" He asked aloud, flicking his tail
from side to side. His gaze seemed to be focused on what lied
ahead of him, not behind or beside him. Mudstripe wasn't sure
wheather or not this might actually work, but it was always
worth a shot or two.

Foxfire was not really a leader, it had to be said. She just didn't have it in her to lead; not a patrol, not a Clan. And that was why she had just let her friend, Mudstripe, lead the way. For some time, at least, she could be away from everything; everyone. No brother spitting fire, no Flamefang flirting with her, no Swanfeather glaring at her secretly from behind; no anything!

So why did she feel sad?

There wasn't really any real reason, really: she had a good life, good friends, a brother who loved her a lot and a great life: food was good, so why did she feel so empty inside?!

Was there a reason for anything, really?

"Who knows?" Foxfire asked, digging... perhaps too far in to her mind. "Who knows where we go from here?" SHe paused for a second and sighed. "Mudstripe, we never what's going to come next. That's the problem. If... if I had known that my siblings were going to drown and die... I would have protected them. But it's too late now. We have to just carry on; we stare hostility in the face. That's the life StarClan chose for us, I suppose."

He stopped in his tracks, turning as she spoke. It was...
breathtaking, in a way he understood. His gaze dimmed, and his
expression was dark, as if remembering something. Something
horrid. How much, he realized, would he give to try again on that
day? His ability to see? Hear? He didn't know it himself.

"You're right. StarClan has laid out a path for all of us." He
stated, unusually serious. "Perhaps, all of the misfortunes that
happen along the way, come out as a strength in the long run.
" A suggestion came out, carried by his voice. He never talked
with his sister any longer, and he was usually... Alone. He never
had one by his side, for better or for worse.

Perhaps, there was something coming along the ridge.

But he didn't hope for it. Not at all.

[ANGST AND DARK THEMES AHEAD.]

Well, that had been... a good release of pent up sadness for the ginger she-cat. She had always suffered in silence; perhaps no-one saw how much the countless deaths (six, count them) had effected her, but... they had, in a completely indescribable way. She remembered lying in the warriors' den, on her own, night after night, and blaming herself. One night it had just gotten too much, and she had gone to the warehouse; considered just giving herself up to the rats.

But she still hadn't, and that was what had made her stronger for it; for the whole sordid experience and all of the misery that she had experienced. Maybe, if she didn't feel the need to take care of her brother; her beloved brother; she wouldn't still be here...

But that didn't bear thinking about, no.

"Some cats... Some cats are just meant to travel alone, I suppose," Foxfire said softly, sighing quietly. "Even though I have always been so close to my brother... well, we're getting older; you saw him with Lightstream last moon. We'll drift apart, and that'll be the last I ever see of him. From then on outwards... well, maybe we'll even be rivals." She took a deep breath, steeling herself. "I-I have dreams, sometimes," she admitted. "But the only one that's ever come twice is... the one that I will kill my brother. My sister came to me; told me her death wasn-" She stopped herself dead there, amber eyes narrowing and realizing that she had said too much. Whatever happened, her brother was her's. Her. Brother.

No amount of happiness could ever stop her from protecting him.

Those words that the ginger she-cat had stated, and then to her
almost breaking down in sorrow. Killing her brother? Why would
she even try to dream of such a thing? Yet, he understood that
dreams were unpredictable as all heck. He understood that, for
he thought many things in dreams. Mostly just wandering alone,
without a place in the world, and just kept in a pure white area,
where none could hear his mews. Those were so vivid, and they
scared him half of the time.

"Cats do not have to live alone. Some choose that path. Some
are destined for that path. Medicine cats are destined, most
other cats are not." He simply stated, though his words were
laced with a bit of sorrow. He could not stop the next words,
even though he wanted to make them pause. "Maybe change
is good for some, maybe it isn't. Even though he may be... with
Lightstream, he will always be your brother. Just like with
Ravenfeather. We have drifted apart a bit, and we are still
siblings, no matter what. We are not rivals, though we are not in
each other's lives as much as when we were younger." He
broke off, looking down at the ground, his amber eyes narrowed into slits.

Perhaps change is good, though it may not

Mudstripe might never know at all.

Foxfire shrugged, amber eyes downturned as she thought about the dreams that had haunted her for these past couple of moons, listening half-heartedly as Mudstripe spoke. Maybe... maybe her muddy-coloured companion was right; maybe all of the cats would grow apart, eventually. It was nice, though, to be able to confess her anxiousness to another cat.

Finally, though, Mudstripe said something that some cats would have thought of as tactless. It made her laugh, though. Finding abruptly that Mudstripe had said something that could potentially cheer her up, she purred,

"Now, let's not start naming their kits just yet, Mudstripe!"

It was good to have someone to actually share bad feelings with, for once. For some reason, she had always preferred to take angst on her own, but she felt a lot happier to have told Mudstripe.

Yeah, she might have been the protective remaining sibling, but it was nice to tell somecat.

When he was actually done with his mindless babble, it was only than that he realized what he had said. To his dismay, Foxfire had also caught it, which brought a look of horror on his face. Yet, she was actually laughing at his mistake. The fright left his expression, leaving a grin (if cats could grin). A gleam of the sunlight caught in his amber eyes, though he was actually pleased that she had not run off. Well, not quite yet, anyway.

"O-of course! My mistake!" He exclaimed, embarrassment showing in his face. He ran his tounge over his shoulder fur quickly, though his attention wavered back to the ginger she-cat. "Wait, why were we out here again? Hunting, wasn't it?" He attempted at guessing, though most likely he forgot about it. Shrugging it off, his eyes darted past the other warrior, resting upon a small robin, pecking at the ground.

Shaking his head, his gaze returned to her, tail waving from side to side. "There's a robin behind you. Want to try to get it?" He asked calmly, almost as if the conversation between the two had not even happened at all.
