For days there have been dark, heavy clouds over the pine trees and swamplands. For days more there has been no rain...The lightning flashes without the usual roar of thunder...StarClan's displeasure is clear...I will speak to Feathercloud again tonight. Perhaps she has learned something new...
The speckled leader was curled on the sandy floor of her den. For the third time, she had gone out to see the sky, green eyes silently asking the question. For the third time, the answer was no. Even without the aid of the rising moon or stars, she could feel that it was getting late. Too late. At last, she rose to her paws for the fourth time ans slipped out of her den. Although it would be as obvious to the Clan as it was to her, as leader she was duty-bound to make the announcement. With a dejected glance at Icepelt, she scaled the gnarled roots of her den and wound her tail around her paws.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather for here for a Clan Meeting," Specklestar called. Once most had gathered in the camp's clearing, which did not take long as the Night Patrol had not yet departed. "The moon does not shine this Gathering night. We will not travel to Four Trees tonight. Hopefully, next moon will be different."
She slowly climbed down, knowing that there would probably be questions. Why was StarClan displeased? She was unsure of that herself. Earlier she had feared that it was due to her plans of battling ThunderClan, but Feathercloud had assured her otherwise on the night of Half-Moon.
