[/justify][/size][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]"So, who's the father?" Near grumbled bitterly, padding ahead of his sister in to ThunderClan's territory. He wasn't at all worried they'd get spotted; he just wanted to know what was wrong with his sister. They were young; they had their whole lives ahead of them, and she had gone and got pregnant?! "Which tom came to the Barn while I wasn't around and promised that he'd look after you if you had his kits?" he spat, not even looking around at his sister.
"Keep it down, brother," Far muttered, not even attempting a reply. Near's fur bristled somewhat, but he just about managed to keep his cool. "I'm not answering your stupid questions. I've every right to have kits, so why are you panicking about it?" she snapped. Near snarled.
"Come on," he said. "Snaketail and Lightningclaw said we're looking for the... Sunning-steps?" he said.
"Rocks."
"What?" Near asked, half-way between indignant and confused. He looked around at Far, who couldn't meet his eye.
"Sunningrocks. They were called the SunningROCKS."
"Weird," Near mumbled. Far frowned.
"Why?" she said, tripping her head on one side as Near gave her a moment to catch up. "I'm sorry..." she mumbled, not quite sure whether she was apologizing for getting pregnant or for being slow or for being so indignant or for annoying Near, or whether she was just... apologizing. For something that neither of them remembered.
"Well, whatever." Near ignored his sister's apology, somewhat embarrassed. "There might be ThunderClan cats around here, so we should be quiet."
He knew he was just making an excuse; he knew how stupid he was being: he doubted very much whether ThunderClan would be around here (his sister would know for sure, but he couldn't bring himself to ask her).
As they were talking, a mouse scuttled across in front of Far, and she jumped on to it, but missed, falling flat on her stomach. Near helped her up.
"What were the questions?" he asked. Far thought about it for a moment, and then nodded.
"Oh, right: the first question was 'Is there plentiful prey in this area?'" she said quietly. Near frowned. That was a difficult one: they had seen a mouse, but he couldn't tell for sure.
He looked about him, and saw that there were several mice, and quite a few thrushes.
"The next question was, 'What sort of prey is there?'" Far said. Near made a mental note:
"Thrushes, mice, and maybe other things."
Snaketail and Lightningclaw would be pleased!
