[/justify]It had been almost a moon since her grandkits had been taken, almost a moon since her daughter's kits had been given away to the three other Clans, leaving only two of the original eight. She had lost one of her own kits, a tiny little bundle that had gotten sick only days after being born, too early for her to have even picked a name for the poor kit. That had hit her hard, but Longflower couldn't not imagine what her surviving kit was going through. Her kits had not died, but they were taken away when they were healthy and strong, with personalities that all of the Clan had gotten attached to despite them being half-Clan. Rivermist hadn't been herself lately, and it was no surprise why. Longflower had been trying her best to comfort Rivermist, visiting her in the nursery and encouraging her out for walks to clear her head. But she feared her efforts weren't working.
It was still early morning, well before many of the other warriors awoke, when the former queen rose out of her nest and exited her den. The air was still damp from last night's light drizzle, and the ground squished a bit under her paws as she stepped outside. She shook, scattering the drops of water that had already accumulated on her tabby fur, and grunted a bit in realization at how difficult the hunting would be today. The rabbits would probably still be hiding in their dens from the rain, making finding any actually outside to be a challenging feat. She had her apprentice, Ivypaw, who needed training, and Longflower settled on the decision of taking the troubled she-cat out to train today. Right now, however, she likely wasn't even awake, so Longflower thought she'd check on the nursery. Kits always seemed to be up and about far earlier than any other cats, after all.
Inside the nursery it was quiet, and she wondered if it was perhaps too early for any kits to be awake at all. She still stepped in, figuring there might be someone awake, but just being quiet in respect to the other sleeping cats. She wasn't sure what she was really doing here, maybe she expected to try to talk to Rivermist if she was awake, but she really didn't know. She just wanted to spend time in the familiar place before she was called off for a patrol. Not too many others were awake anyway, so if she stayed outside she would just be waiting on her own.
