Dusk-kit was having a nightmare. It was a mild one, though, and not worth mentioning.
The low rumble of thunder woke her up. She didn't react like most kits would have. Mewling worriedly and squeezing closer to her mother to hide from the loud noise. But not Dusk-kit. In fact, she liked the sound of thunder. Her mother had told her that it was StarClan up in the skies, yowling. Dusk-kit didn't exactly believe that. She thought it was ancient TigerClan, roaring in triumph. Triumph over what, though, she didn't know. But she liked the low rumbled of thunder. Even if it was loud, something about it soothed her. Dusk-kit blinked slowly and looked around the nursery. There was Poppyfrost sleeping with her kits, who were now one moon. Dusk-kit had been fascinated by watching them grow. They had changed greatly from the mewing, helpless little things she'd seen a moon earlier.
Next to her was her mother, and she was curled around her sister. Dusk-kit's gimpy paw was placed on Tawnykit's back in an almost protective manner. Her chin also rested on her sister's back. She wasn't sure if she just wanted her sister near her or if she just wanting to make sure that she wasn't going to sneak off like she used to. Not that she had, any. Dusk-kit hadn't left the camp since something she referred to as the "incident." That was all it was to her now. She was just trying to block it. Get used to looking at the scars on her body. Ignore the looks of sympathy from Feathercloud. Start to walk normally without that infernal limp. The past was the past.
Slowly, she uncurled herself from around Tawnykit, trying her best not to wake her sister. Once she was untangled, she leaned against her mother's soft fur with a sigh. Dusk-kit had grown a lot in the past moon, as kits often do. Each moon they grow larger by leaps and bounds. Dusk-kit was already bigger than Tawnykit, but now she was even larger.
Another rumbled of thunder. She could hear the rain tapping on the den walls, wanting to be let in. Dusk-kit was mildly disappointed, however. She'd wanted to go out and maybe play with Tawnykit. Feathercloud said they were well enough to even rough house again! But they hadn't. For some reason they hadn't played. Just sat in the clearing, sharing tongues and listening to their mother tell stories. When could they be kits again, she wondered?
