Death:
After his lifetime's actions were caught, he was chased out of camp. One warrior, however, infuriated with what Birdtalon had done, chased him all the way to Carrionplace. Here, Birdtalon was guarded by angry cats until he just swallowed crowfood to die from the diseases it carried. He couldn't stand waiting any longer.
Description:
BIrdtalon did not have his father’s fine looks. He was naturally different from all his siblings anyways. The way he looked was the very thing that set him off for being dark natured.
First, Birdtalon is very much a lean cat. He seems to take after Toadclaw in that sense. He’s very much lanky and narrow in shape. He takes a sort of WindClan look to him when looking at him closely. His stomach has always been very small so he doesn’t look muscular at any angle; he just looks worthy of speed. His hind legs are much more muscular than his fore legs and it shows in his leaps. His front legs have a lengthiness to them that emphasizes how narrow his body is.
He has a tail that fluffs at the end. A rear that is quite hefty in comparison to his anterior even if he’s still small in shape. He has small shoulders that provide little in power. He was never a great cat for fighting. He was always better off a hunter and a plotter. His muzzle is short and rounded, heavily littered with white whiskers. Then there is his small head and slightly rounded triangular ears. His fur is highly patchy because beneath that are many scars he earned from his days of ShadowClan.
His fur is a sort of silvery color. It is darker on his back, almost black there, and on his head. However, the color is white on the underside of his belly, tail, chest, and muzzle. There is a patch of brown on his nose, also being brown. His pelt has fluff to it, great for Leaf-Bare days. But it was a hassle for ShadowClan because of the Clan’s mud. His eyes are a strange sort of green, very, very pale in hue. His pupils are usually large making him seem to be staring into the shadows, or from the shadows, at all times.
Personality:
There is nothing about Birdtalon that is delightful. No, take that back. There is only one thing but in the end, you'll learn to hate a cat that was born for only one thing: killing.
To begin, he is selfish. Everything he has is his. Do not touch it or interrupt it. Anybody coming close to trying to train his apprentice will get one howling roar of complaints later. He will not accept help and has been confined to the medicine cat den for infected wounds. Even then, he's been known for practically tearing the medicine cat's ears off at any sign that he or she would touch his body and wounds. Possessive and violent with those that dare enter this space, he's practically burned his heart into a pile of soot with the flames of anger. His siblings, his mother, his apprentice, his mates, his kits, his father. All of it is his. He will not share except with those born along side him and those from the same mother.
Next, he is competitive. Don't even think that he'll stop after he's been aimed on a goal. With this in mind, may I warn you now: Do. Not. Dare. Birdtalon. He will take that bet to the grave, and he has. No matter where he is, he will do what he can to finish what he agreed to. So, to make this into a better euphemism, he is loyal to his word. Not his Clan, just his word. But in his competitive state, he will break all rules, all morals, and even use his claws to get to the destination. Don't think he won't. When somebody used to say "you wouldn't dare," he dared. That never ended well. Unless a new red paint on the plants of the marshes counts.
Lastly, he is a killer. No, not just physically. He kills hope, he kills ideas, he kills hearts. Everything he wants dead is dead. Even if it includes life. He really didn't start killing cats until Toadclaw's death. Devastated, Birdtalon finally found emotion. That was a one day thing though. That's when Stormpetal and Kestreltail revealed that they had kits fathered by the same cat: Toadclaw. Others stood up and eventually he had a mass of siblings. Infuriated by the actions, Birdtalon turned towards killing to relieve his anger. And that resulted for his downfall.
History:
Born along side three sisters, Birdkit was naturally different. He was used to the three, Featherkit, Nightkit, and Lilykit, going on and on about what they liked. Being three she-cats, it was nothing that Birdkit was into. He was used to being a bit left behind. They tried to involved him but it wasn't easy when they chatted about their dreams. They weren't as ferocious as Birdkit ended up being. They were much kinder about their ideas.
Toadclaw didn't take a terribly strong interest in his kits but Birdkit had tried everything in his power to gain attention from his father. Kestreltail was always a fine mother and each kit was given amazing care. But for a son, he needed a father. Toadclaw was too busy being distant from their family, worrying about training his apprentices and spending quality time with others like friends, to bother seeing his son's silent cries for his father.
When Birdkit was turned into Birdpaw, Lilypaw, Nightpaw, and Featherpaw joined him. So the apprentice den was packed with the she-cats' talk about their forming dreams. When Birdpaw finally gained some guts to ask them to shut up, they just rolled their eyes.
"You're just jealous," Nightpaw had sneered.
"Jealous of what?' Birdpaw replied.
"Jealous you won't get a mate."
"I'll get a mate!" Birdpaw hollered. All three of his sisters seemed to laugh and then Lilypaw dared him to have a mate in all the clans.
That was the day Birdpaw finally learned the idea of goals.
So his mentor, Tanglewing, tried to curve out Birdpaw's ambition and vicious attitude. It was hard to do though since now he had his three sisters to battle against. It was a harsh world and Birdpaw tried everything he could to force it back. He hated sharing his practice time and he preferred working just with Tanglewing.
Well, maybe once in a while he'd give it up for Fawnpaw. She was a pretty apprentice, slightly older than him, and he had learned that she loved the nursery. She adored it. Birdpaw also realized she was like a higher-class or something. Squirrelpaw, an older apprentice, had taken a liking to her and was trying to court the she-cat, obviously doing so at least. So he had competition.
That was the most excitement in his apprentice days. Well, minus Lilypaw's death. He wasn't exactly fond of any of his sisters by the time this had happened so it was just another day for him. One lost, that was all. He earned the warrior name Birdtalon two moons after Squirreltail and a moon after Fawnear. Now was his chance. He waited out his vigil but as soon as dawn broke, he asked to be on a patrol. Well, the patrol went out towards ThunderClan and Birdtalon was among them. By this point, he had no siblings from Kestreltail and Toadclaw was as awful a father as ever. Birdtalon knew he was becoming distant but that seemed okay.
On the walk, they managed to run into a ThunderClan patrol. There was a healthy conversation between the older warriors but for Birdtalon, it was the pretty little tabby she-cat near him. Oh, she was amazing. Nice, sleek coat and lithe body, strong in muscle and heart he sensed. He introduced himself and she did the same. She was called Sparrowheart. He checked off his ThunderClan mate after that. No, she hadn't agreed or anything but he knew she was the one he wanted.
At the gathering, Birdtalon went out of his way to scout every inch of the clans. Sparrowheart was the first on his list and he only had to woo her slightly before she admitted she was afraid of a border-crossing love. He assured her that it was okay and so she fell hard and fast. He hesitated on making her an official mate however.
He was sure that the rest of his list was going to be easy but it wasn't so. Fawnear was slowly and steadily falling for Squirreltail. No way was he letting the older tom have the ShadowClan she-cat he had planned for his mate. He wanted to get her on his list next but a different "mate" interrupted him.
RiverClan borders were very far but he stumbled across one at the next gathering, oddly managing to land himself in that. Sparrowheart was not there, sadly, which left Birdtalon alone. However, he didn't have to wait long. RiverClan announced its newest warrior, Skyfoot. He adored her light gray body that was speckled heavily in darker spots. She was amazing and she was fiery. He was getting bored with Fawnear's soothing voice and Sparrowheart's bubbly ways. He went after her, talking only a small amount before she agreed they were good friends. Skytail might've been a bit of a burn to his paws but she was very friendly beneath that.
Birdtalon was having a fine time with these things. He was granted an apprentice at that point, a strange, dark tom named Jaggedpaw. Apparently, his stripes reminded the queen of a jagged cliff. It was hard to imagine but nobody questioned the strange name the queen had granted her kit. Jaggedpaw kept Birdtalon on his paws and it also distracted him from the other things.
Just like Sparrowheart, he was on a patrol when he was greeted by Darkwind. She was just like Jaggedpaw, dark and a bit suspicious. She was the perfect addition and the last to his plan. One by one, he worked on wooing them. He had them promise to hide his identity, even Fawnear. For Squirreltail's sake, he made sure that Squirreltail believed he was going to father Fawnear's kits. Though the she-cat claimed she was madly in love with him, Birdtalon just put it aside.
One by one, just as he had wooed them, they announced the news. His plans were complete. Each was pregnant at the same time. None of them knew, due to being from different clans, and they had all managed to find a cover-up for their litters. Jaggedpaw earned his warrior name of Jaggedfang and Birdtalon was sure his life was complete.
Only one thing messed up his perfect life. He met Belle. She was a former kittypet with a heart for travel and a wave of difference in her. She was a spitfire like Skyfoot, a flirtatious devil like Fawnear, an emotional heart like Sparrowheart, and a suspicious shadow like Darkwind. She was everything and more for him. She was perfect, better than any she-cat he knew. His whole life was thrown into some insane warp of time as he realized he loved. He could love!
Nightpelt and Featherfur went their own directions when they became warriors but steadily realization was dawning on them. The news had slipped from Fawnear that Birdtalon fathered her unborn litter. Not to mention he was growing awfully distant. They already knew about his affection for the loner Belle but dots were beginning to connect. His loyalties were in danger.
Featherfur was the first to confront him about it. She traveled all the way to Carrionplace and dared ask about Belle and about Fawnear. Birdtalon knew his secrets were in danger so he forced the truth out of her: who else knew? With these names at his claws, he made sure when his sister ran back to the camp out of fear from his claws, she ran into death's fangs. An adder's to be precise.
The Clan found Featherfur's body alongside Nightpelt's body. Nobody knows how Nightpelt had randomly showed up at the place Featherfur had died. She seemed to have been attacked by a badger or something as her throat was clawed out. Birdtalon faked sorrow about their deaths but he secretly was relieved that Belle was kept safe.
All four of his mates gave birth to healthy litters. Fawnear gave him Ratkit and Sandkit; Sparrowheart gave him four kits that looked exactly like him, Silverkit, Graykit, Rainkit, and the still-born Shellkit; Shadowkit, Lizardkit, and Dawnkit were born in WindClan from Darkwind; Dewkit, Ashkit, Cinderkit, Badgerkit, and Sagekit, a large litter, all were born from Skytail. But Birdtalon suddenly realized how little he cared for his fourteen kits. He didn't give a mouse's whisker about them. Belle was his only thing now.
He knew nothing of love until Belle so when she granted him with one son, one she decided to name Beast for his ragged and bulky body, he was happy. Honestly! Life was looking up. His days grew long and he lost some of his kits. He watched them become warriors at the gatherings but he cared strongly for Beast and Belle. That was all his life was about.
Then Toadclaw died. His father, the very thing he had lived for, was gone. The truth bubbled forth and his many siblings were alerted to their relationship. Unable to stand sharing his father, Birdtalon felt that this was his new goal. He had to make sure Toadclaw's name was not tainted by these kits of his, these ones that had sprung from his soul. Birdtalon knew only Kestreltail's kits mattered.
Squirreltail was bouncing in his gait. He had been making friends with all of his new siblings. Even Birdtalon had been sensing Squirreltail trying to make friends with him. "Good hunting?" the tom randomly asked.
"It's good hunting now," Birdtalon snarled. "I know you will hate what I am doing but it is for the betterment of my father."
"Our father," he corrected.
"No, my father," Birdtalon answered.
Tasting the blood that day fueled him up. One by one, cats were dying. First it was Squirreltail, Fawnear and her kits devastated since all had come to rely on the tom as a proper father. Then it grew and grew. For some reason, Kestreltail's kits lived. Nobody understood it.
Birdtalon did but he didn't voice it. He hid it very well. He cleaned his paws after every kill and he planted the body in random places away from where he had been. He was an expert killer and he loved his job.
Until he was found out. One day, while moving the last body of the day, the body of Frogleap, and the deputy tackled him over. Birdtalon howled and tried to escape but it was useless. Dragged back to camp, Birdtalon had to face Ripplestar, his aunt. She seemed so disappointed but the silver tom found that his only regret was not running for Belle and Beast. They had told him they left for a place further away, safety reasons.
Ripplestar announced him banished and Kestreltail was crying her heart out as her son was chased out of camp by the deputy and several others. One tom, a warrior named Darktooth, chased him all the way to Carrionplace. His mate, Tawnycloud, had been slain by Birdtalon. Unwilling to give up the pain. Birdtalon was trapped where he was.
"Are you happy, father?" Birdtalon shouted in rage as the rain began to pour. "Are you happy you had so many kits? Are you happy you made me kill the others? I had to! You couldn't have more than one mate! You had Kestreltail! You had mother! YOU HAD HER!"
Enraged, he picked up a rotten piece of prey and swallowed it the best he could. Some he ended up never swallowing at all. But the poison was in him. "Watch me die, father," Birdtalon shouted again. "Watch me die and know I blame you for this! My death, my kits' loss of me, Belle's loss of a mate, is all your fault!" He laid down on top of Carrionplace and felt hte poison of crowfood infect him with pain and sickness. Slowly and agonizingly painfully, he died while saying the whole time, "Toadclaw's fault. Toadclaw's fault."
