Training the apprentice. <Hawktalon and Owlpaw.>

"Right," Hawktalon said. He looked at Owlpaw. "For one thing, you're not fast enough. For another, keep your voice down here. ThunderClan might hear you." He had set off with the intention to train Owlpaw, but he did enjoy scaring the little tom occasionally. It was one of the few pleasures he had left in life. "Now," he said. "The first thing we are going to do is play a little game. My Mentor often did this with me while I was still an apprentice," he said, padding behind a tuft of grass. "This game is very simple, Owlpaw. We hide from each other. I imagine that you are an enemy warrior, and you do the same with me. Now, if we encounter each other, we attack. First, let us run through- and practice- the attacks," he said. "First, thr front paw strike. First, try it on me. I will defend."

Owlpaw bit his tongue, pale green eyes nervously scanning ferns, imagining a ThunderClan patrol barging through them and tearing them apart. They might be able to fight off one or two, but more than that... He could run, but Hawktalon said he wasn't quick, so he would probably be tackled to the ground like prey.
Needless to say, the apprentice didn't like it much here. Though it was pleasant, the way the sun mottled the ground with shadows. Anytime a slight breeze shook the branches, the shadows below rippled and waved. Though he did brighten a little at Hawktalon's mention of a game, striped tail held high in the air. Games were fun. Though he wasn't sure if the idea of this one was a good one... What if one of them got hurt?
"Fight training? Aren't you going to... show me the borders or where to hunt or something first?"
Still, obediently, he got into a crouch like he'd seen the other apprentices do, folded his ears back against his skull, and struck out with a paw, all his claws sheathed. Owlpaw held back a little, not wanting to hurt the warrior on accident. What if he did, though, and his mentor got angry with him? He looked frightening enough when he was placid...

Hawktalon chuckled. He knew his apprentice was a little worried, and why shouldn't he be? Border-fights were never fun at all. Needless to say, Hawktalon felt no worry whatsoever. He'd been in border fights before; they were easy to win.

Hawktalon also crouched down when Owlpaw attacked him, and while he had his paw up to slash, he hopped up, and pushed Owlpaw down by his shoulder.

"Keep your sentre of balance even, Owlpaw. That's probably the most important thing," he dark tom mewed. "Now, I'll attack you. You have to try to block me. But... I won't say what attack I'm using," he said, a peculiar air of malevolence about him as dappled shadows covered his grey pelt.

(Owlpaw fears just about everything, but Hawktalon up pretty high on his list. XD He doesn't like that big scar of his.)


Owlpaw shifted his weight onto all four paws. It felt uncomfortable, since he was used to using his strong back legs as a base for balance. Still, if it helped him defend himself... The apprentice's eyes widened momentarily. He was going to attack him? Owlpaw knew he wouldn't stand a chance. He was hardly more than a kit. What if Hawktalon lost control or overestimated him or...
All in all, this was not a good idea.
For a moment, the tom stood stark still, wondering what his mentor would choose to do. Then he realized he should get in a defensive position. He crouched down like Hawktalon did a few moments before, mimicking the position of his paws. Striped tail flickering to and fro, Owlpaw waited anxiously for any slight movement that could indicate what he was planning. He could not wait until they moved to a more peaceful activity. Even collecting moss for the elders!

Are you scared of the dark?

Hawktalon rolled his eyes, glancing over at his anxious gray charge. How could he ever mae a warrior of him when he was visibly shuddering, and he had only just mentioned an attack. His mentor had played this game with him when he was an apprentice, and Hawktalon had leaned how to tell what he would do, just by looking his mentor up and down a few times. Oh well. He laughed.

Are you afraid they’ll break your heart?

Hawktalon suddenly dropped in to a low crouch, torn ears flat against his head and eyes narrowed. He ran fast in to Owlpaw, and leaped up at the last moment, knocking his apprentice upwards so that both were standing on their hind feet. Then, he locked his teeth on the the gray apprentice's leg.

Are you afraid you’ll lose yourself?

Then, as suddenly as he had attacked, he dropped to the ground, paws barely making a sound, although his face was hurting again, and a drop of blood-presumably from the shock of springing up- spilled down in to his line of sight. He angrily shhok it away.

Are you afraid of your own health?

"Now you do the same thing," he ordered in a sharp voice, shaking his head as more blood ran in to his eyes.
