(OOC:// Here's the start of a Death Note fanfiction. It based before the kira case. Honestly the only reason I'm writing it is for the extra posts ;D)
It was a small, insignifigant thing, the numbers above the peoples heads. For him it was normal he had always seen them since his earliest memories. He learned quickly that it was not a normal thing to see these numbers. He also learned their purpose, they told him the time when a person would die. They told him that his mother would die a few years after his father. They told him when his classmates would pass on, old or young. Death was around him from such a young age. He learned to cope somewhat of course, if he hadn't then he would have drifted off into insainty, Maybe. He was smarter than the average child he could even be called a genius. It was his genius that would get him adopted by the man who called himself Watari, whom he knew was really Quillish Wammy. He couldn't say that his life at his new home at Wammy's House was horrible. There was only one other child there with him for a long time. He was given the letter A as his name since he had gotten there before him. So he was stuck with being B. The odd names were easily explained. They were being trained to be successors of the detective L. At first it was fine with the two of them. As more children came the stress mounted. With more children they had to work harder to stay at the top. The stress began to mount, because if they weren't number one what was their purpose? A couldn't handle the stress and committed suicide. B thought it was a good thing that A died. He had seen it coming, so it didn't bother him even if he had spent a small bit of time with him. B thought it was a wonderful thing he was finnaly number one! It wasn't short after that he realised it. He wasn't number one. No as long as there was L he would always be number two. As B got older more kids came in, he resigned himself to simply doing his best but letting the younger ones get ahead because what would school work do for him? The years passed by like this and children left as they became adults to find jobs out in the world. B just simply stayed in Wammy's wandering the grounds. He spent his time like this for a few years.
