Stormkit sat up straight with the light tan tail of another queen wrapped protectively around him. Sandtail was quiet and Stormkit was grateful for that. Her presence and familiar scent was enough. He could have easily curled up with Mintleaf, but she had not been present as long and the other calico queen was surrounded by newborn kits. Stormkit would squish them.
After a very long silence, Creamkit and Violetkit approached him slowly. They both looked up at Sandtail and even though his back was turned to the she-cat, Stormkit could feel her give the two a warning look. Creamkit was first to squeeze closer, and she nuzzled his shoulder.
"We're sorry about..." she murmurred. "Are they really going to take you and your siblings away?"
Stormkit did not respond to that. He thought if he did he might wail as pitifully as he felt. Instead he looked up at Sandtail.
"I'm tired. May I sleep here?"
He felt the queen stiffen behind him and wondered if Sandtail might get in trouble with Rivermist if she said yes. At lasdt Sandtail mewed. "Of course you can, all of you should get some sleep."
Even though it's only sunset...
