Flintpaw smiled as Eclipsepaw laughed, then returned his attention to the two now-chattering toms. He almost laughed himself at the one comment, though the other stung. He could be trusted, unless the secret was one that had to be told. That being-followed feeling still stuck with him, even more persistant that that darn cold that followed the stone-colored tom around like a storm cloud.
Eclipsepaw wouldn't kill anyone, couldn't kill anyone. At least not without good reason. A good warrior avoided killing without reason, and he knew that she would make a great warrior. He twisted his head back to see who was following them when he came almost face-to-face with Emberpaw. When had she gotten there?
He opened his jaws to gasp in shock and was suddenly racked with the cough he'd known was coming. it was strong enough to knock him off of his paws and send him tumbling down the small slope and through the brambles and bushes, straight into Twistedclaw's side.
His eyes were closed and his body shook with coughs, so he payed no notice to the disturbance he had caused. When he finally found time to breath and speak, all he could hack out was a mangled apology, half directed at the two toms and half-directed at the two she-cats above him. Before he could say anything else, he started to cough again.
They weren't as strong as the last, so he rolled over onto his stomach, sides heaving.
"I'm okay." He mumbled after the hacking stopped. "Don't mind me..i'm okay. " He sighed. Time to work up a quick lie. "We were hunting together, the three of us, and I started to cough so I fell and we didn't know you were close at all, I promise."
It was a feeble attempt at a cover-up and he doubted that Twistedclaw and Lizardeye would believe him, but he could only hope as a few more soft, raspy coughs escaped him.
"Sorry."
