There were two things that Fireshadow hated: Hawktalon and the Thunderpath. They were both equally evil, and could both kill a cat with an equal amount of mercy: None. She had always thought that she would end up fighting the evil grey cat, but she never thought it would be at such high stakes. She had agreed to these conditions: The loser went out in to the traffic of the Thunderath, and stood in the path of an oncoming Monster. Fieshadow wasn't scared. Ever since her first apprentice, Darkpaw, had pulled through against the odds, she hadn't been scared of anything much.
"OK, Hawktalon. We'll start now." She said. Hawktalon hissed.
Unusual though it may have seemed, Hawktalon was scared of Fireshadow. She was smaller than him, but she was fierce. She could kill, she had that power in her small, brown paws, and, even though she never would, Hawktalon was still scared of her fighting skill.
Still. He ran forwards, expecting Fireshadow to dodge. Instead, she stayed straight in front of him, braced for the impact from his powerful muscles. When he ran at her, he barreled straight in to the wall, as Fireshadow jumped to one side, then on to him. He tried to get her off, but, try as he might, he found that he couldn't. Suddenly, he had the idea to flip over. So, he jumped up on to his hind feet and, because of the extra weight on his back, fell.
[Aaannnddd... Enter a dog that some idiotic twoleg has let off its lead.]
Through her own- and Hawktalon's fear-scents, Fireshadow smelt something dark and imposing. Dog. "Hawktalon!" She tried to make herself heard, and to keep the edge of panic from her voice. "I can smell dog! We HAVE to get out of here! She wheezed, her shoulders crushed by Hawktalon's powerful back.
"Yeah, right." Hawktalon hissed fiercely. Then, he stopped struggling against Fireshadow and tried to get his breath back. Then, he smelt it as well. And heard it. The dog had picked up their scent. "I can hear it as well! He shouted, getting up. Fireshadow slid off his back. "We'll face it together, right?" He said fiercely. Fireshadow gave a curt nod.
Fireshadow could only hear Hawktalon's heavy breathing, the dog barking and blood rushing through her ears. As the dog came in to the Thunderpath tunnel, she saw it properly. A huge, slathering black-and-tan creature, that smelt of twoleg, and had a kittypet collar around its neck. Except this collar was black and spiked.
Fireshadow fluffed out her fur to look bigger than she really was, and looked at Hawktalon, who nodded, even though he was terrified. Suddenly, the twoleg came in to the tunnel. It looked scornfully at the cats, and pointed at them. The dog padded fowards, slathering and growling.
"Ready?" Hawktalon asked. Fireshadow nodded and sprung forwards. Her teeth connected with the dog's leg, and Hawktalon jumped on to its back and clawed at it. The dog didn't move, but snarled. It bent down and picked Fireshadow up in its huge jaws. The fur on the scruff of her neck ripped and she fell the the ground, bleeding. Then Hawktalon knew why she believed in StarClan. When she had been Firepaw, and he was a young warrior, she had said that cats believed in StarClan because it made dying less painful. He gave the dog a vicious scratch, but it wasn't enough.
The dog picked Fireshadow up again, by her leg. There was a horrible cracking sound, and Fireshadow thought she saw StarClan. Hawktalon's scream of anguish broke through the darkness, and she fought for consciousness.
"We did it, Fireshadow, we did it... Please, don't die now..." He mewed pathetically. Fireshadow gave a low hiss and opened her eyes a crack. The dog ran to its twoleg.
"Who... Said... Anything... About... Dying?..." Fireshadow hissed, pulling herself up and leaning against Hawktalon's shoulder. "I never... thought I'd... need my... enemy so... much..."
[OoC: Wow! I thought I'd actually end up sending Fireshadow to StarClan there! They shall now limp back to camp. I think they'll have to go past the patrol, though... Currently, however, my mother is stealing the computer. Boo.]
