Sunrise Strolling (Mistflower & Darkfoot)

The morning was beautiful today, dawning into a brilliant day of sunshine. The pale sunlight woke the earth up and gently warmed the cats into waking. That is, if they were not already awake, which Mistflower was. She smiled to herself, for the morning seemed more beautiful than ever, perhaps because of the tom she was ambling with along the gently flowing river. She would never have guessed that she and Darkfoot would have become more than just friends so quickly, for before the Gathering she had barely spoken to him. But now she was completely sure she felt something between them and just being out on this calm morning with him made her feel light and sunny inside.

"What a morning." She murmured, glancing up. She felt so relaxed, as if nothing could ever disturb the peace of their walk. Mistflower brushed softly against Darkfoot, sighing contentedly. "I could almost stay out and walk forever." She remarked. "But I don't suppose Willowstar would be too happy about that." She grinned up at the tom, winding her tail in his. "We'll have to catch something, or we'll get in trouble." Although she doubted she would care if any cat questioned them about the productivity of their morning. She felt like nothing could upset her today.

Darkfoot narrowed his eyes against the brightness of the sunrise. The'd probably picked the wrong direction to walk in - after all, they were facing the sun. But soon it would be up higher and it wouldn't matter anymore. Anyway, this was the best way for a walk, made even better because of Mistflower. He wasn't sure how the two had bonded so quickly, but it didn't matter much. He really liked the she-cat, and that was all the mattered to him.

"It is beautiful," Darkfoot agreed, purring. "Perfect day for a walk along the river, hm?" He brushed his pelt against hers. She had soft fur, he realized. "I'm sure Patchclaw would have our tails if we didn't bring back prey after being gone all morning," he laughed. "I think Willowsar would be a little more understanding." It wouldn't matter. Patchclaw could say whatever she liked to him, punish him, even - although her doubted that even Patchclaw would stoop to that level - and it still probably wouldn't make him care.

"Hmmm..." Mistflower hummed happily. She felt quite at peace here with Darkfoot, despite the fact that they were having to squint against the sun. This was what she had been dreaming of; a happy ending with a tom like Darkfoot. She'd always known she wanted to fall in love, but she was amazed and delighted to find that it had happened so quickly. Of course, it was still the early stages with her and Darkfoot, but something made her feel very sure that he was just right for her. He could very well be the one for me, she thought, smiling up at hi,.

"No, we'd better not upset Patchclaw." She agreed. "But I don't mind, she can't do anything that could make this not worth it." She purred, her melodic voice blending with the serene sounds of sunrise gently floating over them. "So... What will Gingertail think about us?" She pondered. "She and I get on well enough, don't we?" She didn't want anything to get in the way of their blossoming relationship... Which led onto the issue of how to tell her overprotective brothers. She twirled her tail absent-mindedly, wondering how to bring up the subject with them. They couldn't have a problem with Darkfoot, he was exactly the sort of cat who would look after her. But knowing her brothers, they would interrogate the poor tom to make sure he was "perfect" for their little sister. Half amused and half worried, Mistflower tried to think of the words to talk it over with Darkfoot. The last thing she wanted to do was scare him before their relationship even had a chance to take off!

Darkfoot had to consider this for a moment. Gingertail would be happy for him...right? After all, if it meant she was going to be around kits, she would probably be okay...and it was true, she and Mistflower weren't the worst of enemies. But she was also a bit over protective. Like, 'This tom is my brother, and if you hurt him I will personally claw off your ears.' Hopefully that wouldn't happen to Mistflower. Darkfoot would be very angry then. It would ruin any chances of them being together. Just what he needed, if that happened: Mistflower to think his sister was crazy.

"I think she would be happy for us," the tabby tom concluded with a purr. "But what about your brothers? You said they could be...very protective, right?" He was a little worried now, but he worked to not let that show. After all, they got along okay. He'd never done anything to get under their fur.

Mistflower was relieved that she did not have to be the one to bring up the issue of her brothers. Truth be known, she had no idea how they would react to Darkfoot. They might be absolutely fine with it; even happy for her. But then, there was also every chance that they would turn into her personal bodyguards and begin watching her every move. They didn't know him well, so they would almost definitely give him the "You-harm-one-hair-on-her-pelt-and-we-will-personally-send-you-to-where-the-sun-don't-shine talk", and Mistflower knew she would undoubtedly be cringing as she listened to it. She loved her brothers for taking such care of her, after all, who could really complain about being loved? But it would be nice if she could handle her own love life instead of having her big brothers muscling in on it.

"Well... Yes. Very protective." Mistflower confirmed rather reluctantly. "I mean... They're just looking out for me." She felt her ears grow warm. "But they can be rather... Full on. They won't have a real problem with us, but... They'll just... They might give you a bit of a talking to." She confessed, looking up at Darkfoot to see whether he was completely put off her. "They're really sweet underneath all their brawn!" She hurriedly added. "And I can see you getting on really well with them!" As long as everything works out between us... she thought to herself. Otherwise, she didn't quite know what would happen.

Hmm, great. Mistflower had not just protective, but very protective brothers. Well, hopefully their sweetness decided to show instead of their brawn, as the she-cat had said. And he didn't even want to think about what would happen to him if their relationship didn't really work out...what with all of the very protectiveness.

"Don't be surprised if Gingertail comes looking for you, either...but she'll probably ask she-cat-ish questions, you know? Like, when you started liking me...what you like about me...you know, she-cat stuff." Darkfoot shrugged. He wasn't sure what was up with she-cats and always needing the details of a relationship. But gingertail was definitely big on those things.
