Nightly Adventures

[Ki]

Nala loved that new opening her Twolegs had put in the house. Now she could get out of the nest without having to yowl over and over. She cvould even go out at night! Nala padded through the cluster of Twoleg nests, her short tail twitching in excitement. Everything was so different at night! She hopped up on to a fence and balance carefully. The bell on her collar jingled sweetly. It was her friend and her enemy, that bell. Whenever she was stalking something it would give her away. If she wanted to pass through a cat's garden without being caught, it gave her away. Yet at the same time it was adorable to watch her Twoleg kits flick it with their deformed paws and mew happily as it made that familiar sound.

Nala looked at the bird bath in the garden. She couldn't remember what cat lived here, or if any lived here at all. But a drink wouldn't hurt, would it? Nala made the short leap from the fence to the bird bath. In the light of the full moon, she could see her reflection in the water. She looked so strange compared to the other kittypets. Much larger with a completely different build. Other cats called her 'exotic.' But only those who wanted to be nice. Everyone else called her 'mutant.' Shrugging those thoughts away, Nala began to lap up the cool water.

They must have forgotten about him.

This was the only logical explanation the tom could come up with for being left outside all night. But how could his Twolegs forget about their hairless kittypet that needed a sweater right now?

Frisbee sighed, huddled on his cushion on his housefolk's front porch. His thin layer of fuzz was hardly enough to keep him warm outside at night, even on a warm greenleaf day. So he just stared straight ahead, too cold to sleep, and observed another kittypet drinking water from the bird bath across the street. He considered calling out to her. After all, she was the kittypet he'd seen occasionally. She was different, too. He longed to talk to another cat, one that wouldn't look at him in disgust.

At least the she-cat had fur. At least she was warm.

Nala lifted her head and parted her jaws to drink in the scents of the night. Most kittypets weren't out at night, especially on a full moon. The wild cats of the forest always seemed more active on a full moon. Which, of course, made every kittypet cowar in their pelts. Pfft. She surprised herself and caught a vaguely familiar scent. Nala looked across the street and saw another kittypet on a cushion. It was the strange one with no fur! Well...might as well go make conversation. She had nothing better to do. Nala jumped back on to the fence and walked along it gracefully. She crossed the street confidently; this time in the night no car was awake.

"Locked out?" Nala mewed as she approached, amusement in her eyes.

[Kitty]

Well, it seemed that Frisbee wouldn't need to leave what little warmth his cushion provided to go talk to the other cat, for she had come to him. It was odd, having a cat ask a question, instead of a more simpler 'hello', for their first-time meeting. Sure, they'd seen eachother around, but hadn't really stopped to talk to eachother. Maybe because the only times he'd seen her, he'd been wearing that ridiculous sweater - it was funny how much he needed it, yet how weird he felt wearing it around other cats - and too embarrassed to go over, or at the end of a leash. Or maybe just playing fetch in the yard. Whatever the reason, this was definitely the first time they'd had a true conversation.

"Maybe, j-just a little," Frisbee shivered, a slight gleam of amusement in his eyes despite how truly freezing he was. "W-what about you?"

[Ki]

"They put a door in. I go in and out as I please." Nala replied, sitting down. The poor cat had no fur and was freezing! No wonder he wore that stupid sweater all the time! He'd turn to ice without it. "I'm Nala. My Twolegs are in the nest down the way." She flicked her short tail in the direction. Nala was never a shy cat. She was always outgoing and adventurous. She'd occasionally wondered about joining the forest cats...but she couldn't leave her precious Twoleg kits to fend for themselves. She just couldn't!

"What's your name?" she asked.

[Kitty]

"I'm c-called Frisbee," the tom meowed. He hoped that Nala wouldn't ask what the name meant, because he wasn't sure himself. "I live in that nest," he added, flicking his tail to the nest behind them. "My Twolegs u-usually let me back in before the sun sets if they even let-t-t me out in the first place."

His Twolegs were usually especially careful about that. He hoped that this wouldn't start something and that it wouldn't become a habit - especially in leafbare. He'd freeze to death for sure, then!

[Ki]

Nala took pity on him. "Did you try yowling for them? That's what I used to do before they put that door in for me." She wondered what kind of cat had no fur. Maybe Frisbee was just an unlucky kit. Or maybe he was sick. Or injured, somehow. But what type of injury kept your fur from growing? She'd heard terrible stories about what happened when cats were hit by monsters. Was this the result of being hit by one? Then again, Nala could hardly could hardly say anything. She looked extremely strange as well. "They shouldn't leave you out like this. You'll freeze in leaf-bare!" She blinked. "Don't you have a...another pelt, or something? A sweater?"

[Kitty]

"Yes, but they didn't listen. They don't like being woken up this early. Or late. Or whenever." Frisbee shivered again, then his skin grew hot. He was pretty sure it was obvious. Another benefit of having fur, he supposed. Hiding your embarrassment. "Well, if its ch-chilly out, my housefolk make me wear a sweater. Its kinda itchy and annoying, b-but its better than being cold." he admitted. It was a little more then a little embarrassing.

"Is it nice, ahving fur?"

[Ki]

"Yes, it's nice." Nala replied. She didn't know what she would do if she woke up one morning and her fur was gone. Panic, maybe? Nala nudged poor Frisbee. It must be hard not having fur. "I could try and get them up for you. You can hear my yowl all the way from the forest." Nala's whiskers twitched in amusement. Frisbee seemed like he could be a good friend. They were both different, so he wouldn't mind her...eh...unusual appearance. Just as she could look past him being as bald as a Twoleg. Birds of a feather, you might say. "I think the sweater thing makes you special. It's like having an exotic pelt, or something."

[Kitty]

"N-no, thanks, they;ll think it was me who yowled and yell at m-me. But thanks anyways." He laughed a laugh that sounded a little odd ebcause of his shivering. "And where have I seen one of those before?" he teased, nudging Nala back. Her fur felt nice...he wandered what she thought about him bald. Most cats didn't take it well, but she probably knew more about what he was going through than other cats did.

"S-so, is it warm?" he asked.

[Ki]

Nala chuckled and lay down beside his cushion. She didn't mind him being bald. He was a perfectly nice cat...a perfectly nice cat that happened to shiver when there was only a little breeze in the air. But perfectly nice all the same. "Yeah, it's warm. Though even I get cold when leaf-bare rolls around. I usually spend the season inside the nest." Nala liked spending leaf-bare with her Twolegs. They set a tree up inside of the nest! Nala had fun climbing it, even if it had weird multi-colored baubles attached to it. "Though usually when its over I'm fat as can be. My Twoleg kits give me a lot of milk." Nala licked her lips. Milk. Yummy.

[Kitty]

"I s-spend the last of leaf-fall, all of leaf-bare, and th-the beginning of newleaf in the nest," Frisbee explained. Oh, what it must be like to come outside all the time he remained it! "I don't get that fat. My housefolk have me running after balls inside, too." Fetch. His favorite game. Ever.

"My twoleg kits are the ones that throw the balls." He paused as a rather large shiver passed through him when a breeze came by. He scooted a little closer to Nala's warmth. "I think the big male, he might be allergic to hair, maybe." He shrugged. Why else would they have a bald cat? And he never hugged the kits as much as the big female. The only explanation would be that he had a bad reaction to hair. And he was bald, too!

[Ki]

"My Twolegs give me feathers and toy mice filled with food." Nala was an active cat. She kept going outside until the first snowfall. Only then did she allow herself to be confined indoors. She tried to play with her Twoleg kits as much as possible, but somehow Nala managed to pack on the pounds during leaf-bare. Nala wondered why Twolegs would have a hairless cat. Then again, why would her Twolegs have her? She was bigger than half the cats in this Twoleg place! Her pelt was different, her ears, her tail, her pelt...pretty much everything. Nala licked her foreleg self-conciously. "Do your Twolegs put a tree inside during leaf-bare? They're fun to climb." Nala wondered if it was just her Twolegs. A weird cat for a weird bunch of Twolegs.

[Kitty]

"Oooh, the pine tree? It's fun to play on! My Twolegs yell at me for played with the hard, dangly ball things." Frisbee sniffed disdainfully. "It's fake, though. I see them putting it together at the same time each year. And then they decorate it. But still, its th cloest I get to being outside." He could tell Nala thought she looked odd. But all cats looked normal compared to him! Huge ears, skinny, hairless...kind of like some Twolegs, only with four legs instead. He shivered and shifted slightly closer to the she-cat.

So other Twolegs did it too! At least Frisbee's did. Nala noticed Frisbee scooting closer to her. The poor cat was freezing! She moved a bit closer herself, trying to transfer some of her warmth to him. "The put stuff under it, too. Stuff with colorful pelts. They rip them off at one point...but it's fun to play with them. The pelts are really crinkly. Not like fur." She was pretty sure the things under the tree weren't living. If they were she wouldn't go near them.
