A day in the life of...

[peregrine]

Peregrine casually strolled by the twoleg dens on the path next to the stinky thunderpath. Ah how he missed that life. No worries, no troubles and no problems. No reason to dwell on the past all it did was make you depressed. Which made you hungry. He glanced at the sky the was little clouds, Today would be a good day.

He paused and stretched before letting out a wide yawn. He always woke up with an ache, he needed to find a permanent place to live sooner or later. Thats it! That's what he would do today, he would look for a home. "Hmm. Where should I look?" he mumbled to himself glancing around before heading down the path once more.He thought about all the places that would be nice. A hole? Maybe. An abandoned twoleg den? Nice but the chances of being caught we're to high. Under one of the twoleg monsters? Defiantly not.

This was going to be a lot harder for him than he had thought. Plus he had to find somewhere plentiful in prey and near a source of clean water. He let out a sigh and his tail drooped. He also had to look for todays meal. There just wasn't any end to his problems was there? Still, he had to survive and being a nomad just wasn't working out anymore. It was fun, but difficult.

The sun had just risen and the black streets of twoleg place appeared to him as onyx rivers. Overhead, streetlamps were still lit and flooded the stonepath with orange pools of light. The young silver cat padded down the street with a calm, yet aware, attitude. His black markings oddly stood out more in the lack of light. His yellow eyes flashing.

He'd eaten this morning, quietly of course. Twolegs don't appreciate hearing munching before the sun rises. Drake wrinkled his nose. Dry food was the worst, but they only got the good stuff when their twolegs were awake.

Drake blinked and glanced across the thunderpath. Another cat was there. Older than him, but Drake hadn't ever seen him around here. That was something. Seeing as Drake new just about every cat in and around the twoleg place. But he didn't call out to the loner (he assumed the cat was a loner as Drake lnew all the kittypets). He sat down on his haunches and waited cooly to be noticed.

There seemed to be no good sleeping places near the twolegs, sure there was many spaces for a rest. There was just nowhere suitable for a long stay. Things were looking glum and searching for a home was getting boring. He looked to the other side of the thunderpath wondering if he should inspect that side some more and saw a cat sitting over there.

He looked both ways to make sure there were no twoleg monsters. None in sight, they must all still be sleeping. He quickly raced across the thunderpath to wards the cat. Now seeing it closer it was well groomed and definitely not as skinny as Peregrine was. He assumed it was a kittypet, the thought made his heart tighten a little bit.

Peregrine had come over with a plan. Be nice with the other cat and maybe just maybe he would learn of some nice place to sleep. "Hello! How are you this fine day?" he asked with a kindly look to his eyes and a bounce in his step. He wanted to give a good impression with his attitude because honestly who would be impressed by his skinny looks?

Now that the tom was before him, Drake saw that despite how skinny he was, this other cat was taller than he was. Normally, Drake would be weary but...

It wasn't the greeting he'd expected. By the look of him, the cat was no regualr fighter, but he might have been scrappy. Such a friendly polite greeting was a surprise to the silver-black cat. But he switched gears quickly to fit the change in atmosphere.

"Hi there, pal," Drake mewed calmly, still sitting. "The day's barely started. So...I saw ya lookin' around. You new here, or somethin'?"

[peregrine]

Relief swept through Peregrine, Either he made a good impression or this was just a friendly cat. Either way it was a win situation for him. "The day may have just started but so far it's been pretty fine." he said sitting down on his rump. He had gotten past phase one now all he needed was to get some information from this cat.

Was he new? Well, he'd been around for only a day so he was pretty new to the area. "Yea I'm new. I just got here the other day. I'm trying to find a nice place to settle down, but so far I've had no luck." he said. Peregrine was pretty happy it'd been a while since he'd met a nice cat. Or at least a cat that would talk to him.

Drake resisted the urge to lick his paw and flick it over his ear. Constant grooming was a clearly kittypet habit. He'd yet to outgrow it, but at least he'd developed some restraint. Instead, he flicked his tail towards the south side of twoleg place.

"If its a place stay awhile your lookin' for," he mewed casually. "I know a place with good sleeping space, a bit of privacy, and good meals. You interested?"

[peregrine]

At the mention of such a wonderful place to sleep Peregrines eyes filled with excitement and happiness. It had been so long since he had a place like that to live. Despite all of this happiness that filled him he was wary. I sounded WAY to good to be true. A place like that, it didn't seem possible anymore.

Despite these conflicting feelings both told him that he should at least check it out "Really? You know of such a place?" he asked unable to hide the excitement in his voice completely. He stood up immediately after saying this "Lead the way!" His paws couldn't wait to get to this place that the cat spoke of.

Drake shrugged. "Follow me then."

He padded at a reasonably quick pace, not rushing, but not dragging the walk longer than it had to be. His soft, kittypet paws were hardening from the past moon on solid stone ground. He was becoming more and more loner-like by the passing day. His sister couldn't stand it. Drake couldn't wait untl the transformation was complete. No more baths, no more twoleg kits picking him up. He'd be able to go where he pleased when he pleased.

"There are other cats living at this place by the way. Don't worry though. It's pretty big and roomy so you're unlikely to tun into them often. The name's Drake by the way. What's yours?"

[peregrine]

Peregrine followed moving a bit quicker than the other cat. Visions of his new less starved life added a spring to his step. The loner life was hard, exspecially if you were thrust into it as a young cat without a clue. It might be easier for a more expirienced cat but still it must be hard for them all.
At the mention of sharing a space with other cats he was a bit put down but it might be enjoyable, if the other cats were nice. He had completely forgotten about introductions until Drake mentioned it "Oh! I'm Peregrine, Thanks a lot* for the help!" he said. He had really choosen right by approaching this cat.

[Yoko]

"No problem. This is probably the highlight of my day," Drake mewed with a slight smirk. "Alright, so I'd better let you know what you're in for. There are two cats you'll be seeing the most of. Both are she-cats. First off, there's the one with dull grey shaggy fur and really yellow eyes. She's usually quiet, but don't ever talk to her unless she's spoken to you first. Otherwise, you'll never here the end of it."

He chuckled remembering the first time he met Helen. He nearly lost an ear that day.

"As for the secondm her name's Scorn. She's got mostly brown fur and a light side of her face and a darker side. She's actually pretty okay. Just remember they both like privacy."

[peregrine]

Oh lord. She-cats. Couldn't there be any toms living there? Oh well. Neither of them seemed to nice either. There was an upside to this though, Maybe, just maybe he could get pointers from one of them. It was obviously a long shot but still the chance is there.

"Ah, They seem pleasent." He said sarcasticly. Drake seemed like a nice cat, maybe they could get to be buddies since he most likely lived nearby. The thought of having a regular face in his life seemed like something both comforting and ... scary.

Peregrine was afraid of losing someone close to him again. Even the thought of having a permanent home made him nervous. What if he had a repeat of what happened before and he lost the home? Peregrine shook his head, no need for such pessimistic thoughts.

[Yoko]

"The one best part of where we're heading is that you'll never go hungry. It's crawling with mice, and with only the three of you there, there's no way you'll ever run out."

The end of the road was coming up and the building was now in sight.

"Welcome to the Loner's barn, Peregrine."
