Aspenfoot lay near the back of the den, his small pink tongue running over his odd-looking front paws. The caramel-colored tabby tom's large, oddly-coloured eyes were closed as he went through the task of keeping his pelt clean.

Finally finished, he lay his head on his paws, ears perked forward towards the den entrance, whiskers twitching. Someone had to come in soon. He hoped he wouldn't have to sit alone for long. Aspenfoot rather enjoyed having someone to talk to.When left alone too long, his mind started to drift to the small tan she-cat of his past. He shook his head to clear the image. It was true that he'd never forget Fawnpelt, but he had to keep that promise he'd made. There had to be some she-cat that would want him around.

Swallowfang padded in welcomingly to the warm den. Her paws were sore and her eyes were tired, and she was ready to fall asleep anywhere she laid down. Heading straight for her nest but taking a second to glance around, she saw that only Aspenfoot was in the den. Where was everyone else, then? She might have missed them in the clearing, but she didn't bother to mull it over.

She curled up in her usual nest, too tired to wash her fur like she usually did. Her stomach growled but she closed her eyes and ignored it. Things like that could wait for morning. Especially after her busy day of going on the patrol, escorting Earthfoot to ShadowClan and then attending the Gathering. Swallowfang curled her tail close to her body and laid her head down on her white paws with a sigh.

Aspenfoot kept his head down on his paws as Swallowfang walked into the den. She didn't look all that happy, but then again, she didn't appear to be mad or angry, either. Neutral terrirotry, the same way he felt right then. He heard her stomach rumble faitly and discreetly slipped out of the den. He quixkly snatched up a few mice and a finch and carried it back into the den, and placed the little bird in front of her.

"You're hungry., Swallowfang. Don't deny it, because your stomach did all the talking for you." He mewed, gently retreating back to his own nest with the mice. He curled up once again, waiting for her to eat first. He was odd, yes, but no one seemed to mind his little quirks.

Swallowfang blinked an eye open as she heard the noise of moss moving and Aspenfoot left the den. By the time he returned, she could smell the fresh-kill and her stomach rumbled again. She tried to go back to sleep but something fell onto the moss in front of her. Holding back a growl of annoyance and looked toward Aspenfoot, who was getting back to his own nest.

"I could have gotten my own, you know." she stared back at him, stubbornly waiting for him to eat before her. The thrush smelled good and freshly killed; probably during the hunting that had been done while they were at the Gathering. She was tempted to eat it but stayed put. Something about the idea just irked her.

"Yes, but I knew you wouldn't. You'd wait until morning." He mewed, smiling. Why did she seemed so annoyed? He was being kind, wasn't he? Aspenfoot sighed softly, and looked down at his mice. He puhed them around a bit, and snuck a glance over at Swallowfang.

"Okay, fine." He sighed. She wasn't going to eat until he did. So he bent his head down and took a good-sized bite out of one of the mice.

Now she had to eat. He just knew she did.

Swallowfang grunted. "Then why did you bring some fresh-kill, then?" Despite her irritation, her day had been too long for her to keep up a decent bad mood or argument. That, and she didn't normally fight with her Clan mates unless she had had a really terrible day. Seeing that he took a bite out of his mouse, Swallowfang bit into the thrush reluctantly.

"Can't I do something nice for a clanmate?" Aspenfoot mewed, feigning surprise. He had finished one mouse and moved onto the next, his mouth watering at the tantalizing smell.
The tabby warriort smiled, his expression warm. "And it's not like you're complaining. So deep down inside you are actually thankful I brought you that finch. I just know it."


Finished with the much smaller mouse, he buried the remains and sat up, curling his tail around his paws.

As Aspenfoot kept on talking, Swallowfang angrily chewed on the thrush. He had some nerve, she grumbled to herself, acting the way he was. Though she knew she was in a rather bad mood, and she blamed her irritation on her tiredness. She did feel better after eating, she wasn't about to admit that. It would probably only make him say something else that would annoy her. After finishing the last of the thrush, the warrior curled deeper into her nest, hoping to sleep now. "Whatever." she was aware of him still sitting there, not laying in his nest and not leaving the den. That bugged her. She didn't like to be watched while she was trying to sleep.

"What are you just sitting there for?"
