Wonder what will happen (Dustfur and Gingertail)

"Ohh, so this is normal? That's good." Even though Gingertail couldn't imagine any cat not talking much. It was too strange. Even Darkfoot talked some! "So, why don't you talk much?" she asked, directing her question at Dustfur this time. "I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, it's normal. I think. Maybe." She realized she was rambling and shut herself up.

Dustfur shrugged. No one had ever really asked him before. He just never seemed to talk much; he didn't need to. "Maybe he's just shy or something." his sister said, flicking her tail. "I don't really know." Dustfur wacked her gently with his tail, both annoyed and embarassed. Did she always have to say things like that? It was as if she was either trying to take all of the attention or just annoy him. Heathertail let out a whine of protest and stepped away, sitting down and rubbing her nose with her paw.

"Am I the only one who can't stand Heathertail?" He muttered to Gingertail, dodging her question, not meaning it but also rather irritated.

Gingertail laughed. "Yup, you are. She's just fine for me!" she exclaimed. She hadn't missed the fact that he'd avoided her question. Should she ask again? "So, you're just normally quiet, right?" she asked, basically asking the same thing but rephrasing it.

She flopped onto the ground next to Heathertail and stared intently at the tom, waiting for his answer. Her tail tip flicked impatiently.

Dustfur let it go; he normally didn't get aggrivated with cats, with the exception of his sister stepping his nerves every so often. Gingertail went over by Heathertail, and again he was faced with the question. Not knowing how to answer, he just said, "Yeah, I guess. I don't know why." he added before she could ask why. He predicted the question and tried to avoid it.

"I wasn't going to ask why, but okay!" Gingertail teased. Did he have no sense of humor? And he wasn't very good at carrying on a conversation, either. But she'd manage. she playfully batted a paw at him. "Come on, why so serious all the time?" she complained good-naturedly. She pranced the few pawsteps over to Dustfur. "Am I annoying you?"

Why so serious? What a foreign sounding question. Well, maybe not so much. Dustfur took an involuntary step backward as Gingertail came closer to him. Uneasiness flooded over him as well as the desire to reach out to this she-cat. She was actually making an effort toward him. He wished he came across as more friendly instead of the way he usually acted.

"No, you're not." he admitted finally, nervously avoiding her glance. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Heathertail smiling thoughtfully.

((Jeez, I didn't know he was this socially awkward. xD It's fun though.))

((XD I feel kinda bad for Gingertail. Trying to get him to talk some, and all he'll do is use short little phrases. XD))

"Oh, come on. I must at least be making you nervous, since you keep backing away." Gingertail took an experimental step towards Dustfur, just to see what he would do. He'd avoided the question again. Obviously, he didn't much like talking about himself. She'd ask again later. She took another step towards him, a mischevious glint in her eye. She noticed Heathertail smiling, and wondered what was so funny. She shot a questioning glance over her shoulder at her friend, then turned her gaze back on Dustfur.

"N-no, I'm not nervous." He quickly forced himself to say. Why in StarClan did she keep trying to talk to him? Heathertail giggled quietly a few tail-lengths away after Gingertail looked back at him. Dustfur felt his ears grow hot as Gingertail kept coming closer to him. He sat down on the ground, not letting himself back up anymore. Stop being afraid, she's just another cat. He gave her the most calm, non-nervous look he could make. "Now, what were you saying?"

"Oh, you were backing up? I didn't notice," Gingertail meowed, playing along. He is so still nervous! she thought. He did a pretty good job hiding it, though. Her ears burned in embarrassment when Heathertail giggled, although she didn't know why. But she refused to sit down. She would have a conversation with this tom if it was the last thing she did before she went to join StarClan.

Dustfur narrowed his eyes ever so slightly. "I think you did notice. Or else you wouldn't have kept coming closer." he meowed, hoping to sound more confident.

Gingertail's ears twitched. "Pshh. Maybe I was just standing farther away then you expected and it took me longer to get to you?" she suggested. Her eyes narrowed. He will give in first. I will not give it. I will not lose this staring contest. she thought, but couldn't stop a giggle from slipping out of her mouth after the thought crossed her mind.

They sat there, eyes narrowed at each other for a few moments. It was quiet and slightly unsettling, for Dustfur at least. He wasn't confrontational. Maybe they weren't confronting each other but it felt that way to him anyway. Suddenly, Gingertail let out an unexpected giggle. Dustfur's eyes widened again and rounded with confusion. At least the tension was gone. "What are you laughing for?"

Gingertail shook her head, closing her eyes. Mousedung, I've lost the staring contest! she thought, making herself laugh harder After a few heartbeats, she got control of herself. "I was just standing there, and we were staring at eachother, and the next thing I know, I'm thinking 'I will not lose this staring contest!' " gingertail explained. She didn't know if he'd find this funny, butfor some reason it made her hysterical.

"Oh." Dustfur smiled a little at the fact that she kept laughing. He didn't think much of winning the 'staring contest', it hadn't even seemed like one since it was so short. "Why were we having a staring contest, anyway?"

Gingertail shrugged. "I dunno. We were both just staring at eachother, and I decided we should have a staring contest!" she announced. Finally, something decent to talk about! If only Dustfur could keep it up a little longer, she might get to know him a little better..."So are you happy that you won?"
