Haven forest is a vast and beautiful place nestled cozily in a valley. It is full of colorful flowers, huge trees, prey of every shape and size. It is home to just less than half of the World’s wolf population. It is also cursed.
Every century or so, a terrible disease strikes the Haven Forest, devastating its wolf population. Wolves that have caught this horrid illness die a painful and gruesome death. They lose all the water in their body and no matter how much they drink the water leaves them as quickly. The longest the ill have lived is a week. The shortest is three, and sadly those who go first are usually pups. There are few who are immune, and those who are leave the Haven, too grief-stricken to remain in what they had thought was a safe home. Immediately after the illness clears, the next group of wolves moves in and takes their place, ignorant of the curse.
This year will be different. That is because this year a sign has come from the heavens. A star has fallen from the sky, and landed deep in the mountain range. Many wolves suspect that if they find the star, the cure will be found as well. There is a cure for the deadly disease! But it is so far away and such a difficult journey that most wolves would rather stay and comfort their family members as they die. At least then they will not be alone…
Still, a meeting has been called for those who are brave enough to make the journey. They do not have time to waste, so if they are going to set out they must set out quickly! The wolves of many different packs and even loners are accepted to go on the trip. Those remaining at home can only hope that they return in time, or at all…

She howls. It is a melodious sound that weaves between tall trees and rolls over open plains and rises to the heavens. "All those, who've seen, the fall-llen star, please come to me, from near and far, For sick, and ill, will re-main still, until we find the cure!"
The beautiful silver wolfess inhales deeply. Then she lays on her belly at the forest clearing's center. All she could do was wait. A rustle from the bushes behind doesn't disturb her at all. Beside her pads her lanky, bristly-furred silver brother. He lays the rabbit beside his sister.
"That was excellent Yoko," he said gently. "They're sure to come."
Yoko sighed. "I hope they do, Haseo. Or we'll have to set out alone."
