Blue eyes is a recessive gene, but considering both parents have blue eyes, I don't think it's something too odd. It should be fine...

Well if it is a recessive gene, all of the kits would have to have blue eyes, wouldn't they? Assuming blue is a recessive gene, if either parents had an amber or green gene, then their eyes wouldn't be blue. Which means that neither parent has any genes other than blue-eye genes... assuming blue is recessive, which I'm still not sure of. DX

A site I looked at said this:

(Blah blah something about solid coats) Other cats can only have green, gold, or copper eyes, not blue eyes. The most common eye colors are in the middle of the eye color spectrum (greenish-yellow to gold). The colors at the ends of the eye color spectrum (deep green or brilliant copper) are usually seen only in purebreds who have been selectively bred for extreme eye color, but they may sometimes appear in non-purebreds.

But this would mean that no non-purebred cats could have blue eyes, so that could be incorrect. And would totally ruin loads of cats on here. ^_^' Besides, I found other info which says it can happen randomly, but blue eyes look to be very occasional in non-purebreds, so it's very unlikely that there would be a whole bunch of blue-eyed cat in the wild.

OK it can't be impossble for non-white cats to have blue eyes. And then there's some weird thing causing a breed called Ojos Azules which causes dark blue eyes and is a dominant gene and it's all very confusing and Cai is going to stop talking now because her brain hurts. *Implodes* Guhhh... After all that, I still didn't find out about the actual gene. Though it seems that it's all linked to coat colour? And solid-coloured cats are the most likely to have blue eyes, whilst tabbies and multi-coloured cats have different pigments...

Um, Spore, recessive means it's not likely to show up unless both parents have the gene. I think you were thinking of dominant genes. xD

Night, recessive doesn't mean it's just unlikely to show up, it means it will ONLY show up if the dominant allele is not present. The only way a recessive trait could show up without having two alleles for it is through mutation.

Spore is correct. Blue eyed cats must be (if the gene is recessive) homozygous with the blue-eyed alleles. So if the parents are blue eyed, they must both have two blue-eye alleles so the kits can't have anything but blue eyes. ^_^

Yay for all the genetics talk. :3 It's always been one of my favorite subjects. So, going with the assumption that blue eyes is a recessive gene and both parents have blue eyes then it is probable that all of the kits will have blue eyes as well.

I brought it up because I didn't know Blizzardeye had blue eyes. xD But I'm glad that got straightened out.

And no, if the parents have blue eyes then the kits WILL have blue eyes, cuz there's no other alleles present. Except for freaky mutants I guess, who might not have blue eyes... Don't make me draw a genetic diagram for it. Haha.
