Description:
Ashstar is a smoky gray she-cat who looks almost black during the night. Her appearance is like that of her deceased father, Shadedstar, in that she has a dark gray, almost black color pelt. Toward the back of her body she has a lighter gray color which really only shows during the night hours, in the reflection of the moonlight. Since the moon is not quite as bright as the sun, the accents of the lighter gray really show up on her darker colored fur. To complete her pelt, she has a couple of stripes that are silver around her face and tail.
During leafbare her coat is long and thick, which keeps her quite warm. In greenleaf, her fur becomes short and a little wispy, which keeps her cool. She thanks StarClan that her pelt is generous enough to change from long to short. This wonderful trait she inherited from her father’s side of the family, once again showing just how similar the she-cat is to her deceased father.
The insides of her ears are the same smoky gray color as her pelt. Her nose and pads are both a healthy pink color. Last but not least are her eyes. They are a brilliant sea foam greenish color just like her mother's were, probably the only thing when it comes to appearance she inherited from her mother. Overall she is a very pretty she-cat who is almost the spitting image of her father.
Personality:
Ashstar may be a very young leader, but she is a kind and caring she-cat who would risk her life to save another cat. She grew up being the leader's kit, and knew from watching her father that it wasn't an easy job to have. She knows how to keep a level-head, which is something that she has worked on very hard. During tense situations, she does her best to calm herself down and not get in over her head.
Ashstar knows when something is too big of a challenge for her, and knows her limits. At these times the advice of the senior warriors becomes very valuable and she will not hesitate to ask. The leader will also seek advice from the medicine cat, knowing her father had done the same and it worked well for him. She may have been made a leader very young, but she has proven she can do the job well. At first there was a lot of self – doubt issues, but now that she is more comfortable in her position she is much more confident.
She tends to be a bit stubborn and has issues with something if it doesn't go the way she planned, but who doesn’t have their stubborn moments? Ashstar is very brilliant, something that she doesn't show too often, but when she does watch out! She is beginning to show more and more this hidden brilliance, as it is becoming necessary for her dwindling Clan.
History:
Ashstar was born into ThunderClan the youngest of two kits. Her mother, Silentstep, was a mute she-cat who had never spoken a word in her life. Silentstep was able to communicate by the use of her tail and drawings she created using her claws and dirt. Her father, Shadestar, was the leader of the Clan and was a devote and proud Clan leader. When Frostkit and Ashkit were born, it was the greatest day for their parents. There had been a shortage of surviving kits and both parents hoped that the two would survive. Ashkit had always been the smaller of the two, the one most likely to get sick. Frostkit would never leave her sight and kept encouraging her. Both kits befriended another one of the kits in the Clan, Bramblekit, and for the longest time Ashkit considered him her brother. She was glad to have someone other than Frostkit to talk to.
The day of their apprentice ceremony both kits were struck with a blow. Silentstep and the kits were inside the nursery, the queen licking each kit with pride. A dark figure crept into the nursery and killed Silentstep, leaving both kits speechless. Ashkit was full of rage and charged after the figure, only to be struck down and injured. Frostkit managed to drag his little sister out of the way and the dark figure went back into the darkness. Little Ashkit suffered from not only mental pain, from losing her mother, but also was wounded badly by whatever it was that had attacked them. The kits apprentice ceremony was delayed for a few days so that they could bury their mother. Ashkit stayed in the medicine cat's den for nearly a moon, recovering from the attack, but was able to say goodbye to her mother. Shadestar had carried the little kit out of the den for a few moments, but no more than that. She was glad for both Frostkit and Bramblekit's company.
Ashkit watched her brothers become Frostpaw and Bramblepaw, but was not quite strong enough to become an apprentice herself. One moon later she became Ashpaw, her wounds completely healed. She proved to be quite a pawful to her mentor and pushed herself so she could catch up with Frostpaw. Ashpaw was determined to not give up. She finally had caught up to her brother, something no cat thought she could accomplish; after all he had been a full moon ahead of her in training.
The two were made warriors together, after several long moons of training, becoming Ashwhisker and Frostwind. Not only did she become a warrior with her brother, but her best friend Bramblestripe shared the ceremony with them. By this time, Ashwhisker was having a feeling other than friendship toward Bramblestripe, but keep quiet, not wanting to jeopardize anything. Shortly after they were made warriors, Frostwind and Ashwhisker were given apprentices of their own. Just like they were trained together, the two trained their apprentices together. Their apprentices were made warriors themselves, and Frostwind became ill. Ashwhisker spent all the time she could with her brother, like he was for her when she was hurt. The support of Bramblestripe during this time kept her sane.
The sickness soon spread throughout the camp, several dying from the illness including the deputy. Shadestar appointed Ashwhisker as his new deputy when she was nineteen moons old. It was an honor to be her father's deputy, but she also felt a little apprehensive about it, since she thought Frostwind deserved it, after all he was the older of the two. Frostwind assured her that he was fine with just being a warrior and that she was the best cat for the job, even if she was quite young. It was around this time she started to drift apart from her best friend, Bramblestripe, because of so much stress and her new job. Frostwind soon was over the sickness, but the siblings soon received something they never wanted to have.
Their father, Shadestar, lost several lives to the sickness, and was killed leaving Ashwhisker to be in charge of the Clan at just twenty-two moons. Ashwhisker became Ashstar, leaning heavily on the senior warriors to help her out for a good half-moon. The only thing good about becoming leader was that she once again rekindled her friendship with Bramblestripe and the two admitted their feelings after many moons and became mates. Ashstar found out she was having kits, and it was obvious who the father was. Despite knowing she needed to slow down, she refused and completely ignored that she was having kits. It took time for Ashstar to tell Bramblestripe, but she finally did. Still, she refused to go to the nursery, she was adamant about leading the Clan until the kits were literally being born. A little over two moons later Ashstar had another tragedy in her life. The one cat that she had always relied on, no matter what had died, her brother was dead. Without Frostwind, Ashstar didn’t know what to do or how to do anything. The shock of his death sent the she-cat into early labor.
