Bloom was a wanderer.

Traveling was what he did, not because he derived any particular enjoyment from it, but just because he felt that he had to. There wasn't any real reason for it, other than the driving urge to leave every trace of his old life behind him, where he would never have to see it again. The tom had been roaming for the better part of two moons, stopping occasionally to rest for a few days in one place or another, but always moving on again, always pushing himself forward.

He had long since ceased to recognize the lands that he traversed even faintly, and was moving on blind instinct and not a little bit of whimsy. It didn't really matter where he went, so he simply aimed his paws in whichever direction pleased him best.

After all, it wasn't like he had anything to lose.

On this particular day the clouds were light and sparse, scudding lazily along a sky that was dominated by a greenleaf sun. He had been traveling for most of it, walking with no particular direction in mind, just blowing along like a thistle seed in the wind. Not that there was a lot of wind right now; hardly a breath seemed to stir the stagnant afternoon air, which made traveling somewhat of a suffocating ordeal.

By now his paws were hot and sore, his belly cavernously empty. His body ached for even a short rest, but so far he had not seen anywhere that looked like a promising place to stop. The baking scrublands that he had only just escaped from were hardly inviting to a weary traveler, especially riddled as they were with Thunderpaths, those reeking creations of Twolegs that monsters roared across all day long. No, he would continue on a bit longer. Hopefully some place to rest would make itself obvious soon.

Undefined stretches of ground passed beneath his feet before Bloom saw a place that looked promising. It was a large Twoleg structure located just at the edge of a large stretch of windswept moorland, but even from this distance he could tell that Twolegs did not come here with any regularity. Its run-down appearance was his first clue, but upon pausing to scent the air he realized that there was hardly any scent of Twoleg at all.

The smell of cats hit his glands, strong enough for him to tell that this was a regular gathering place for anycat looking for a rest and a meal. And, most tempting of all, underneath everything else, the musty smell of hay and old wood and the unique scents of various other loners, he could smell the familiar and enticing odor of mice.

Bloom made the decision to approach quickly, without any hesitation or thought for caution. It wasn't that the thought that the residents might not be friendly didn't occur to him, it was simply that he didn't care. If it turned out that they were hostile and chased him out of the barn, well then he would think about it. But for the moment he just wanted to rest and eat.

Right now he could only see one other cat, a fluffy ginger tabby who was curled up in front of the building. She was pretty, he decided, and wondered if he should say hello. Then his throbbing paws made the decision for him; he couldn't walk another pace until he had rested them for a while. Hunger would have to wait, it was time to stop.

Padding up to the quiet little loner, Bloom flashed a winning smile at her. "Hey, you don't mind if I rest here for a bit, do you?" He flopped down beside her without waiting for a response, stretching out in the warm afternoon sun and sighing as the pressure eased off of his paws. "Ahh, thanks. Wow, lovely view you have here. I'm Bloom, by the way. Care to introduce yourself?" Friendly amber eyes slid over to gaze sedately in the she-cat's direction as the tom lay beside her, completely relaxed. He might have been a rogue, but it didn't stop him from being easygoing with those he met on his travels.

No, it just stopped him from being open with himself.

Even if she couldn't.

Shifting her gaze back to the tom (Bloom? Rather feminine name, that was.), the ginger she-cat drew in a steady breath and shot her gaze back to the rolling hills. Yes.

Yes it was a lovely view.

”Josephine,” She answered curtly.

Grateful to be able to rest for a while, Bloom licked one paw as he lay beside the strange ginger she-cat, watching her with curious amber eyes. Hopefully she wouldn't mind his company for a little while, especially since she could have asked him to leave and he honestly wouldn't have been able to. It certainly wasn't his intention to annoy her, but he was fairly certain that his limbs wouldn't be able to cooperate with each other long enough to carry him somewhere else at this point. The warm sun felt good on his weary flanks--she had chosen a nice spot to sit.

"Josephine," he echoed, trying out the unfamiliar name on his tongue. "You have a lovely name, Josephine," he decided, smiling carefully at her. Some she-cats didn't like strange toms smiling at them. However, hopefully this one wouldn't take offense, for he didn't mean anything awful by a simple smile, and was only trying to put the somewhat curt-sounding she-cat at ease. "Sorry about my sudden drop-in. I honestly couldn't walk another step." Bloom twitched his sore, reddened paws for emphasis.

If only he could hunt; he could smell the mice crawling around the barn just inside, and hear them scuffling. But his jelly-like limbs wouldn't be doing any pouncing for a while left, so he supposed his hungry belly would just have to wait a spell until the rest of him was fit to feed it. At least he had company, so he wouldn't have to spend yet another evening with only himself and the stars. That was, if Josephine didn't decide to desert him in favour of a more private locale.
