"Of course looks aren't everything, but you should still think about it. I mean...you're a pretty she-cat. And pretty she-cats shouldn't have ugly kits." Thrushtail replied matter-of-factly, still keeping her voice low. She listened to her friend speak. Oh yeah. She was totally picking Dustfur. It was written all over her face. "Nice and sweet and kind? Aren't those things most she-cats look for...in a mate?" Thrushtail smirked triumphantly. Oh, she'd totally caught Gingertail. Did she really think she could get anything past her? Ok, yeah. Sometimes Thrushtail acted like a bit of a mouse-brain. But that was only because she was bored. When she got bored she acted like a mouse-brain. I mean...fighting over territory? Battle moves? It was all boring. Who cared when you could be in a nursery, cooing over your own babies and being taken care of?
Thrushtail glanced over at Birchnose. Still over there, talking to the other medicine cats. It was difficult to pin down why she liked him so much. Not because there wasn't anything there; there was just so much. He was smart, and he took her seriously. That was a big one right there. He put up with her ever-changing moods, her mouse-brained ideas. He was nice. And not all that bad-looking, either.
Ugh. Why did he have to be the stupid medicine cat?!
Leopardfang chuckled and went silent for a few moments when Willowstar stepped forward to speak. It delighted him that, in just one more moon, she'd be announcing the birth of his kits. And then, a few moons after that, she'd announce their apprenticeships. And then, when they became warriors...Leopardfang had already decided he wouldn't retire to the elder's den until his kits had become warriors. True, he could always retire now. No one would blame him. But why should he? Leopardfang wasn't deluding himself into thinking he could still fight and hunt; he still could. His joints didn't bother him as much as they did some other cats his age. His sight, sense of smell, and hearing remained in tact. Perhaps they weren't as sharp as when he was younger. But they were still very much useable. It didn't make sense to retire when he could still fight for his Clan.
When Willowstar finished speaking, he looked to Cindertail. "Pretty soon she'll be announcing our litter." Leopardfang looked up at the full moon hanging above them. "StarClan has sent us a blessing, Cindertail. We're lucky to have each other, and lucky to have kits on the way." He smiled.
