Fogpaw squinted in the rare leaf-fall sunlight, laying his ears flat against his head as he slowly ambled to the training hollow. The ground was still damp and the young, gray-and-white tom could feel his paws sinking into the earth more and more with each step.
He picked his way slowly through the reeds, nearly shrinking away from the bright sunlight that shone down on his Clan's territory. Fogpaw tried to keep to the few trees and heavier undergrowth, relishing the cool and dark shade in contrast to where the sun glared. Today's a good day for training, he thought absentmindedly. It'll help to get my mind off of this sickeningly superb weather. He was glad Beechstorm had asked to meet in the hollow a little after sunhigh, for Fogpaw had already grown tired of the queens and elders fussing over how nice a day it was. For some reason, it annoyed him to no end. He twitched his ears at the thought and pricked them forward as he pushed his way down into the hollow.
The sandy area didn't have its usual dusty and dry atmosphere. Fogpaw had to admit he liked it better this way, with the sand wet and clumped instead of loose and easily kicked-up. Maybe the change of terrain will help during training, he wondered silently. Retreating to the grasses that surrounded the hollow, he sat down and gathered his tail around him to wait for Beechstorm.
