'Sandcloud needs to take a look at Smallpaw.' Well there's a big surprise. Smallpaw thought bitterly. He looked at his mentor apologetically. Ravenfeather must get frustrated at him sometimes. Warriors looked forward to having apprentices. To train and shape a new warrior and form a special bond. Smallpaw's illnesses left little time for training. And now this. His ears burned with shame and he dipped his head. But for some reason the camP seemed oddly empty. Where was everyone? Blue and green eyes scanned the camp for his cousin and aunt. If Spottedsky was in camp she would have been at his side in the moment that Ravenfeather asked for Sandcloud. Smudgeclaw as well. Relief flooded through him. At least he wouldn't have to deal with his embarassing aunt right now. Smallpaw set his paw down now. Horrified by the thought of permanent damage, he'd walked on three paws the whole way. The small apprentice could put a little weight on it, but not much.
"Where is everyone?" he asked, looking round. The patrols shoudn't have taken that many cats, should they?
Stonespots rose to his paws and padded over to the group as they arrived. His icy blue eyes sparkled. "Well well, Ravenfeather, you got an entire hunting patrol going!" He had was just about to go out and track Ravenfeather and her small apprentice down. He looked over Ravenfeather. She was a pretty she-cat, and young. He purred at her, then looked at her apprentice. At first Smallpaw looked like..well...Smallpaw. Stonespots felt a little unnerved whenever Smallpaw was around. Sometimes the young tom looked so frail that all Stonespots had to do was give him a simple push of the paw and Smallpaw would fall and break into pieces.
'Why do ya need....ooooh..." Stonespots noticed how Smallpaw was keeping most of his weight on three of his paws. The other was being held lightly so that it barely rested on the hard gorge ground. "That's the one you hurt when Crowfo...I mean...Crowkit and you fell, wasn't it?" The apprentice nodded, and Stonespots saw his eyes flash with unusual anger. Had the apprentice known that Stonespots was about to refer to his dead brother as 'Crowfood?'
Ashflower looked at her mate, tail swishing mournfully. She had hoped she and her family could have a nice, quiet day together. But far be it from her to keep her Hawkfoot from his warrior duties! Ashflower leaned over and nuzzled into his fur, purring. "It's alright, love. I'm sure they'll be sweet as can be!" At least, she hoped they would. Ashflower nodded at Brooksky. Her kits weren't leaving her sight today! She looked down at Rowankit and rasped her tongue over her daughter in an attempt to soothe her. "No, I'm not going to leave you three." As a queen, she knew in just one moon her kits would be becoming apprentices. But, for now, she'd focus on the present. "Come on, little kits. Lets race to the nursery." She smiled at her children. Ashflower tried her best to make things fun for her kits. Even simple things.
