""A ShadowClan patrol has arrived,"
"They've come to check on the kits' conditions and take them home if they're well enough."
"They've come to check on the kits' conditions and take them home if they're well enough."
ShadowClan had come for them. They'd come! Tears welled fresh in her eyes and she nuzzled her sister with newfound affection and warmth. You never knew just what you had until someone's claws were to your throat and you were so close to losing everything and everyone you loved. "Do you hear that? They came, they came!" Suddenly everything seemed beautiful to her. The strange WindClan cats, the constant sound of wind sweeping over the moors, the dead rabbit in front of them. Everything! She looked at the warrior who'd delivered the news. In her eyes he seemed like a messanger from StarClan themselves!
"We're well enough!" Duskkit told the WindClan tom. All she could think about was how grateful she was to be alive. To see her Clan again. Maybe her mother was with the patrol! And Lionfang! Duskkit grinned at her sister now. Suddenly she was back to her old self. Even if she was tattered and bruised and still a bit bloody, the same old light was shining in her eyes. "They came, they came!" It was music to her ears. So much she was almost singing it.
ShadowClan had come for them! They were going home! She rose to her paws and tried to sprint out of the medicine cat den. In her state of extreme happiness she'd almost forgotten her injured paw. Pain shot up her leg and into the rest of her body. It seemed to set the rest of her wounds on fire all over again. Duskkit toppled forward and held her hurt back leg at an awkward angle. Duskkit wanted to cry again. But she wouldn't. Not in front of Tawnykit. If she cried then her sister might cry too. That was usually how it worked with them: if one of the two was unhappy, so was the other. Quieted again, she leaned over and licked her bag leg tenatively. Scratches and bite marks screamed in protest. But the cooling salves seemed to quiet them a bit. Even if they did clump in her fur and make her want to itch at her scratches.
