Longflower glanced away from the white she-cat as a well-known scent caught her nose. There was no mistaking the dark and pungent scent of ShadowClan, and they were coming into their camp. The WindClan cats led the outsiders to the clearing and the long-limbed cat could see that there were three of them. Two warriors she didn't recognize, and Foxfur.
Foxfur. As soon as she heard of her daughter's mate being ShadowClan, she had quickly identified the ginger tom at the Gathering. And now he was here, for what? For the two ShadowClan kits, possibly, but Longflower knew it wasn't good for him to be here. And now here was Rivermist, coming out of Ravenstar's den. From across the clearing she watched Rivermist carefully, entirely waiting to see what would play out.
His eyes narrowed with disbelief as yet another scent entered his nose. More cats? Where were they all coming from? October stayed sitting perfectly still where he was, unmoving and hoping to go unnoticed. He still watched Flowersky and Snowy, and the Clan cat talking to his mother, who was called Longflower.
A commotion was starting to be stirred up, and Heathertail lifted her gaze and stared as she picked out Foxfur from the ShadowClan cats. Her guilt was now in full swing. It could be just a coincidence, but how could he show up just after she had been talking about him this morning? And now she saw Rivermist, too, and she couldn't help feeling guilty. She had been thinking Foxfur should be able to have some of the kits but obviously Rivermist was very stressed out about the situation. Now they were both here, what would happen?
