Longflower flinched back as a paw swiped quickly at her face. What was Finchstep thinking? Hadn't she been the one to bring the injured kits to their camp for care? The long-limbed she-cat stepped back, glanced over at Russetfang, and looked back at Finchstep. Longflower gently placed the gray kit on the ground so she could speak and stood in front of it. "Stop it," she said steadily to Finchstep, not masking her irritation. "She needs to go to Russetfang's den." The longer treatment was delayed the worse off the kit would be. She hoped Finchstep would end her outburst soon or at least allowed the kit to be taken into the den.
Harewhisker flattened his ears and sighed. "Where's Ravenstar? Finchstep, leave her alone." The question was muttered and the second part directed at Finchstep, who had just attempted to strike Longflower. He kept his eyes on the three cats carefully but now also had to turn his attention to Finchstep. He didn't want the loners in his camp no more than any other warrior probably did.
Yeah, Sandkit thought, Russetfang won't want us bothering him. But maybe they could talk to the other adult cats instead. She wondered what Clan they were from and why they didn't take the kits back to their own Clan. Unless they weren't from any Clan, then how did they find Clan kits? Her mind whirling with questions, she watched as Spottedkit went closer to the crowd and soon disappeared within the many cats. Not wanting to be left out, Sandkit bounded after him and followed his path until she was next to him again. "What's going on?"
